I have some pigs face and it seems to be shallow rooted but I am no expert. I have googled this and it only mentions about long stems that have roots at the nodes. Any medium/small succulant like plants are a good choice for this spot. Be careful where you plant it as it takes over. It grew up and amongst our grevilleas and smothered them and was a pain to keep on top of, round up weed killer would only slow it down. I wouldn't put it in a garden with other stuff. Yes ours had very shallow roots. The one I have is not a fast grower as its been in for 3 years but probably is more to do with the poor soil & conditions here, so not too worried about that, it was more the root depth that I was concerned about.
