Unfortunately their alfresco and living areas look straight into our living areas. We are looking at building a screen (20 mtrs long x 2.4 mtrs high) to run down our side fence, it will be steel posts with stainless steel balustrading wire running between them so we can grow some climbers up to screen the neighbours. We are thinking that passionfruit vines would be a good option?? Would really like help with - 1. how wide apart we would need the wires so that climbers can grow and screen correctly. 2. any other reccomendations on climbers that would be suitable 3. anywhere we can get feijoa plants in the Southwest of WA or Perth. Thanks in advance for your help. Local council here has a 1.8mtr height restriction on fences, however this is freestanding inside the fenceline. We bought some star jasmine climbers in the weekend, now need to read up on the soil preperation so they dont die on us and get the framework in. Now just need to find some feijoas. Re: Screening the neighbours - trellis requirements 5Apr 13, 2011 9:42 pm You will need certified organic compost. You need bentonite clay and zeolite. Some Seamungus. Then mulch heavily with freshly shredded tree lopper mulch to around 10cm thick. (no its not too thick) I would have used a grape vine along some trellis, that way a productive plant will be enjoyed for your money as you water it $ An even better option would be the Kennedia nigricans, Coral Vine. An excellent bird attracting native climber that will grow faster than a Chinese star Jassie and watching the birds playing will be a great pleasure and worthwhile sacrifice for the fragrance lost out on. Amazing flower show! Re: Screening the neighbours - trellis requirements 6Apr 14, 2011 9:40 am Bronzewillow we now have a new neighbor building next door. Unfortunately their alfresco and living areas look straight into our living areas. Not to be too picky but would you prefer that they have their bedrooms facing your living areas so you can take a peek at whats going on? Sometimes there are not many options. Bronzewillow We are looking at building a screen (20 mtrs long x 2.4 mtrs high) Do you have a "standard 1800mm high fence? If so does that block the view when sitting sufficiently? I would think that unless someone is standing at the fence, purposefully looking over it (which is a completely different scenario than just wanting a screen)that the 1800 high fence would suffice? FWIW, I don't think I have EVER purposefully looked into my neighbors living room windows unless I was actually trying to see if they were home, when they had said they were away and the living room light was on and they'd asked us to keep an eye out. (emergency brought them home early in that case) Re: Screening the neighbours - trellis requirements 8Apr 16, 2011 6:01 pm Fu Manchu An even better option would be the Kennedia nigricans, Coral Vine. Amazing flower show! I had a Kennedia (can't recall the exact variety) at our old place and that thing grew like a triffid on steroids. Very pretty. We have Chinese star jasmine here and they're doing well, but they're not miracle growers. 12 months has seen them grow about a metre, maybe 1.5, in height. I'm happy with the growth, but we have reed screen behind them to hide the neighbours and the side fence. This stuff: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This was on google.
