Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 21, 2011 2:42 pm Hi all, Ive just built a home in Adelaide and have now come to the phase of doing my landscaping front and rear. I've been trying to chase down some design ideas of some wide frontage front landscapes as this is what I'm dealing with. House is approx 20m wide and have lots of space to fill up! Ive recently had exposed agg. poured for driveway, and am considering continuing this around for front path access etc. Ive attached a couple pics of what I'm dealing with. If anyone is bored and wants to have a little doodle with the landscape plan that'd be fantastic! I've had a few goes at it but a little in decisive, I say one way, partner says another.. you know how it is ! Our biggest issue is whether to have a walkway direct to front of house, or off to side as the front of house is on a bend. Also advise on whether to have vegetation/small plants directly up against the slab? if look at pic1, looks awesome but not sure how that'd go against the slab? The blank canvas: (there has been a council footpath laid in front of house now also). The exposed agg: The blank landscape design: Couple of my ideas: and just a couple of 3D views of designed backyard And some ideas ive looked at : pic1 pic2 pic3 pic4 Any help or photo ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Re: wide frontage designs? 2Mar 21, 2011 3:45 pm Your backyard ideas look great. I always think its good to have a good path from the street to the front door which is pushchair/wheelchair friendly. Doesn't need to be straight but you should be able to see the front door from every part of the path. This looks more welcoming to people especially when the door is not next to the drive. Also better for security when the front door can be clearly seen from the street. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: wide frontage designs? 3Mar 22, 2011 11:06 am ok here is my new design: question - is having mulch/pebbles going to be an issue with moisture and termites up against the slab? I have a steel frame home with minimal timber throughout the entire house. keeping in mind that I will provide a 75mm gap between damp course and ground, can anyone see an issue here? Re: wide frontage designs? 4Mar 22, 2011 12:58 pm Hope this helps! My preference is Pic 4 and I prefer the footpath next to the slab not flower beds, not just because of potential problems but when you're cleaning windows, painting in the future, cleaning gutters, etc. it allows easier access and it shows off your house better. Just my $0.02. Love your house. For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: wide frontage designs? 5Mar 22, 2011 2:05 pm I think I agree Mclaren. It would be easier for the path to run alongside the house, rather than a garden bed, especially as it is a long front. I also think I would go with the curved lines rather than the straight lines for the path, etc. as I think with the wider frontage this will give it a more flowing look.
