A month or so ago I came across a patch of funny looking stuff in my garden, to be honest it looked like dried up vomit, I didn't give it much thought but I thought it was wierd that when I gave it a poke with a stick it turned to powder and stained my hands and feet.
This stuff has been appearing more frequently lately. Here are some pics. This patch appeared within the past two days, it is a pale yellow colour and has the consistency of a mousse pudding:

The next patch is several days old. It goes crusty with age and when poked with a stick, it appears dried and powdery inside.

This patch is over a week old. When disturbed it disappears into the finest carbon-like powder you can imagine and leaves virtually no trace.

Any ideas? It only affects my palm garden at the back of the yard. It is not a fungus. It has no root structure. The soil is natively heavy clay but has been topped with topsoil. I have covered the soil with Euc mulch, topped up several months ago. I have used molasses once, applied directly onto the soil around the main plants. When I have planted the plants I have sprinkled Dynamic Lifter pellets into the holes first. The goo appears randomly, not necessarily near any one species of plant. Is it a matter of excess nutrients leeching out? Is it a matter of wrong soil type for my plants? Is it something to do with our cool, wet summer? Is it the Return of the Jedi????
