Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 20, 2011 3:07 pm I have been researching what type of Soft Leaf buffallo Turf, and I think I have search too much and confused my self more.... I am tossing up with Kings Pride Evergreen Soft Leaf Buffallo, Sir Walter Soft leaf Buffallo, or Palmetto Buffallo. I live in Mount Annan in South Western Sydney facing south west. I want a grass that is soft on the feet, and green all year round and will tolerate wear and tear . I'm taking up my Kikuyu turf with a turf lifter, then using a rotary how to turn over the clay soil and use some clay breaker when doing so. Then laying down turf soil underlay , leveling it out and then rolling the fresh turf out to a level pad. Now what turf to use....... what would you advise......out of the three I have mentioned. Re: What type of Soft Leaf Buffullo, too Many to choose from 2Mar 20, 2011 3:34 pm You will have to do better than that to get rid of the kikuyu or it will grow through your buffalo in no time. You will need to hit it with roundup at least twice and hopefully that will be enough. There are other threads on this topic which will give you some ideas. Re: What type of Soft Leaf Buffullo, too Many to choose from 4Mar 20, 2011 6:54 pm Can somebody please tell me what is the strength of the Round Up that you need to use more than once? Which exact product should we use, hopefully the one that works after just once or twice? (Well, if anything really works on kike!) My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: What type of Soft Leaf Buffullo, too Many to choose from 6Mar 20, 2011 8:27 pm I did have some idea to use round up, was going to wait to see how the grass lifted up first with the turf cutter. How long should I leave it though after spraying a couple of times with roundup before I lay the fresh turf?? My Kikuyu is only 3 years young, but am sure it's well rooted. I was also leaning towards the Kings Pride too, coz I listen to 2GB radio and they recommend it. Who is your supplier? Then I heard good hings about Palmetto and my neighbour has nice green Buffallo grass and I think his is Sir Walter. Re: What type of Soft Leaf Buffullo, too Many to choose from 7Mar 20, 2011 8:51 pm Lex, normal strength round up application in a pump sprayer, a couple of drops of dish washing liquid (to make the roundup stick to the grass) and a capful of seasol or some urea/sulfate ammonia (to trick grass into thinking its getting fertilizer instead taking up round up quicker). This should work in one application on buffalo. For kikuyu/couch you need more applications as they have underground rhizomes that will re-shoot, you then spray the new grow and repeat till it gives up the fight. The thing with kikuyu and couch is that they can re-grow from any small runner/root left in the ground. Thats why you poison it repeately. Buffalo only has above ground runners/stolons, so once you kill what you can see, the jobs done.

We are in Adelaide & ordered it through Munns. Re: What type of Soft Leaf Buffullo, too Many to choose from 9Mar 21, 2011 8:39 am Thanks, BK. That's what I suspected - the only reason you'd need to poison kike (from air) more than once is if you don't get all the deep seated risomes out of the ground - which nobody probably can ever ensure. That's the worst thing about kike - you can't deal with what you can't see. And that's one of the reasons why I appreciate grasses like buffalo even more - they don't keep any hidden 'weapons' . Anyway, I will attack kike both from air and from underground and then, after I think it's done, I'll also install some root barrier at the fence line, as deep as I can. Re: What type of Soft Leaf Buffullo, too Many to choose from 10Apr 05, 2011 1:57 am Too many to chose yes, agreed. are they different, well technically yes. Would you tell? No Price and service. My choice is Empire Zoysia over Buffalos and a blend of the both is the very best but don't lose sleep over it. Get the soil right as the thread on it goes through and it will look good even after a nuclear war. I've dug some footings to embed a post anchor into. My holes are around 450mm deep which I'll put a 200mm stirrup into. The bottom of these holes seem firm enough. … 0 3312 I would never build with Fowler homes.
