Hmmm ... never thought that scraping off the land (and turf) would actually scrape off all our good top clay too! Now I don't know what to do. "He" will want to scrape off the land and level the bumps that way. I can see our good stuff going
Alternative: Do not scrape, but rather get him (yes ) to hire a how and cultivate instead of scraping. At the same time, add MZS (magic ingredients, Molasses, Zeolite, Seamungus or whatever the spelling is and whatever I actually need to add) ... So mix everything up and leave for about 4-6 weeks until the end of the job. Then what? Redo the hoeing and treat with MSZP etc ? Spray any tough weeds again? Spread some 'top' soil? Now I am reluctant to add any type of new soil ... (same story - unrealistic? fear of weeds), but probably will. Problem is, our land would end up maybe being higher than it is now, will all the stuff mixed up.
The other issue I'm seeing - I think we'll be left with some large clusters of old turf and this, once it actually breaks down, would make our new lawn bumpy again. 'cause I think it will take it longer than 4-6 wks to decompose fully. ???
