Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 16, 2011 3:32 pm A big hello to all, First time poster (and first time gardener) so please go easy on me! Doing a cleanup in the current garden (taking out lots of overgrown bushes/weeds etc- back breaking I tell you!) and planting some Yuccas amongst other plants - some in pots and others in ground. 1) A bit worried as to how big do the roots of the different kinds of Yucca grow – anyone here have one of any of these 3 types and care to comment? Want to know so that they don't affect the foundation of the house- otherwise will plant them in pots. Some of these internet pics are scary: http://www.smgrowers.com/image/yucca_elephantipes1.jpg 2) Also, I am really confused with the names of these 2 types of Yuccas that are most commonly seen. Is YUCCA Elephantipe this one http://tinyurl.com/4kdqs89 Or the big one shown above?? (the previous URL in 1) or is it this one? http://tinyurl.com/46j2gn6 3)Then there is Yucca Gloriosa – this one: http://tinyurl.com/4foxs4y What do these grow up to be like?? Do they stay like a shrub and grow up to be a bigger one OR do they develop a tall sort of stem? 4) Overall which ones are easiest to control? They dont grow as much in pots but dont want to damage the house so want to be sure. Got all Three of these different kinds on me (total 7-8 plants) so just need to work out which ones to plant in pots and which ones in ground? Thanks for any advice. Have fun digging one of them out! There are a few other small ones that look different to elephantipes.
