Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 12, 2011 8:45 am Hi guys, our biggest Eucalyptus caesia “Silver Princess” that we planted in our front yard months ago has been going great guns. It's absolutely gorgeous (as are the other smaller two which are growing next to it). They've all really taken off. A couple of weeks or so ago we have really strong winds, and we noticed the highest part where it branches into two has split. We left it for the time being. This morning we went out and it's still alive and well, neither branch has shown any signs of struggle. We also notice someone has put yellow electrical tape on the split It wasn't either of us, and it certainly wouldn't be at least one of our neighbours, perhaps it could be the other (might ask them when we see them). How completely odd though Someone has tried to save our tree My question is... and refer to attached pics. What should we do? Cut the lower branch off so the higher one doesn't suffer, and remove the risk of the split spreading further down the trunk splitting the whole tree in two. Use something else to help tape it together? Please help... http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/SilverPrinces.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/SilverPrincess2.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/SilverPrincess3.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/SilverPrincess.jpg Re: Help with my Eucalyptus caesia “Silver Princess” 2Mar 12, 2011 9:43 am That's really odd... and very neighbourly of whoever it was. I'd use some grafting tape to try to fix it (Aumann's stock it). Removing the damaged branch is an option, but it's probably worth trying to save it first. Re: Help with my Eucalyptus caesia “Silver Princess” 3Mar 12, 2011 10:00 am I know, weird hey... (unlike all the trees opposite Bunnings in Milk Park where people have snapped them in two) That was my biggest fear putting nice trees in our front yard... vandals. Neither branch seems to have suffered, they're both healthy. I'll head to Aumann's and pick up some tape - thanks Re: Help with my Eucalyptus caesia “Silver Princess” 4Mar 12, 2011 10:43 am Wow, how bizarre!!! Why was someone paying so much attention to your tree?? Really odd! I'd try saving it too, at least then you know you tried, if you don't want to go to Aumann's then try the Mernda Garden Centre, they might have some. Was it YOU who tried to save our tree? I'll be questioning everyone now Re: Help with my Eucalyptus caesia “Silver Princess” 6Mar 12, 2011 10:48 am just Erin Ah, thanks Lisa, didn't think of those guys, it's a shorter trip, will try there first. Was it YOU who tried to save our tree? I'll be questioning everyone now Hahahaha no, it wasn't me! Reminds me, I need to go down to the Mernda garden centre and get prices on crushed rock and see what flavours they have 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' I'm over road base stuff, need more options Re: Help with my Eucalyptus caesia “Silver Princess” 8Mar 12, 2011 8:48 pm erin and lisa, You know Midway has opened a few weeks ago? It's somewhere in McDonalds rd, on the road opposite westfield. It has quite a large variety of rocks. http://www.midwayminimix.com.au/garden- ... /rocks.php So strange that someone put those type on the tree? A electrician waiting for someone near your house? Re: Help with my Eucalyptus caesia “Silver Princess” 9Mar 12, 2011 9:42 pm I would actually take the branch off! You could probably use it in your house as a feature for a while and the smell of it will be lovely. I would've taped it up within a day of it breaking rather than waiting a few weeks - the branch would already be healing itself. Re: Help with my Eucalyptus caesia “Silver Princess” 10Apr 05, 2011 1:16 am Cut it, it will do just fine. In fact that is a tree that if it grows and ends up a shape you don't like, cut it to the ground and it will start over with a whole new look. Erin, it's tough work being a plant super hero. I heard it's distress and flew up into the sky to tape it. I would have been there sooner but you didn't use the Fu Signal Re: Help with my Eucalyptus caesia “Silver Princess” 11Apr 05, 2011 9:59 am I had my suspicions it was you Fu!!! We ended up cutting the branch off... the tree is getting pretty big now! LOVE IT!!! Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting. I've bought a house 2 and a bit years ago and last year we had some major water damage on a converted pergola area… 0 7932 Yes, unless you are in a low intensity rainfall area or the area is protected from rain. Do you have access to NCC Part 2 or can you download it? I can email you a copy… 10 12515 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7165 |
