Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 09, 2011 1:18 pm We've got plenty of time before we need to put in decks, paving, plants, etc. as the slab has just gone down, so I wondered if I might get some ideas from my fellow Home1ers on what to do with the back garden. I've attached the site plan and the house plan so you can see where the family room door is etc. We were thinking of some lawn down the 4m side (got a dog who loves to fetch) with some space for planting veggies & herbs (preferably in raised planters - maybe along the fence?). I'd like a bali theme at the back with palms, etc and a covered deck from the family room. Hubby would like a small shed at the back with a roofed area attached to it for the BBQ but there is a 3m easement to consider. Look forward to hearing your thoughts. Re: Ideas to help plan landscape of new house 2Mar 09, 2011 3:27 pm I see you mention a dog. Are you going to let the dog wander round the whole garden or restrict him to part of the garden when you are away from Home? I have found my dog and small plants don't mix too well so I have fenced off a bit of a run and made sure the dogs got shelter/shade. Might be worth thinking about before you make other plans. As far as the easement goes there shouldn't be a big problem in putting a shed on it. (unless there is a manhole where you want to put the shed. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Ideas to help plan landscape of new house 3Mar 09, 2011 3:41 pm Thanks for that - she usually has the run of the garden. She's pretty good and doesn't dig very often - we give her lots of toys. I am a bit worried about what we can build over the easement but a trip to the council should answer that question. Re: Ideas to help plan landscape of new house 4Mar 12, 2011 12:53 am For gardens with dogs, it's easy. Make a gap between plants and fence line. Only needs to be 300mm or so. There is the run so they can check the boundary. They will need to two or three spots to hide and shelter under established shrubs or the like. Those spots need to have a commanding view of the garden or a large part. Make sure they are never around when you plant plants. They'll see you dig and think its fine to do.
