Lex Hard work does pay off, looks great Mclaren You must have been pleased as punch to be able to show off your lily!! Thanks guys, Yep I'm over the moon about my Lilly. Not sure how much I will get done this weekend. It's been raining most of the week and it's still raining today. I might take the time and go shopping for pavers for the lower section of the back yard. Re: My Landscaping, My Gymea Lilly Pic 22/11/2011 226Dec 11, 2011 12:37 pm A quick update: my Lilly has shot up a bit more but hasn't thrown a flower yet. With xmas approaching I have kind of shutdown for the moment on the landscaping. I did mow the lawn and give it a feed of Seamungus and replaced the tire on my wheelbarrow. Does that count as doing something?? Perfect timing for the seamungus. A storm just rolled through and dumped the heaviest rain I have seen in years. It's all watered in now, fantastic! Re: My Landscaping, My Gymea Lilly Pic 22/11/2011 228Feb 01, 2012 7:10 am KTKTKT Have loved following your work, Knock it Down. How's it going this year? I've been a blit slack so far this year. We went away over xmas and before I knew it, it was time to go back to work. My list of things to complete is a lot smaller now than it was 12 months ago. Need to finish building the Veggie patch Construct my garden shed that I recenlty purchased Prep and lay turf in the back yard (approx 50m2) Prep and lay paving in the back yard (approx 45m2) Stepping stone path and gravel down the narrow side of the house Re: My Landscaping, My Gymea Lilly Pic 22/11/2011 230Feb 01, 2012 8:53 pm KnockItDown A quick update: my Lilly has shot up a bit more but hasn't thrown a flower yet. Hi KID, welcome back! Just wondering what type of turf you have in this area where you used the Seamungus? And how did it turn out, is the grass any better now (or worse?! ) ? BTW, are you planning to import soil for the back yard turf prep? And do you intend to use sand under pavers? And do you intend to leave gaps in between the pavers (for sand)? (I found paving a b**** hard work and hard to get it nice and level, but we were using large pavers and virtually no prof tools, neither very good for novice paving men and women ) My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: My Landscaping, My Gymea Lilly Pic 22/11/2011 231Feb 03, 2012 7:47 am Hi Lex, I used EZ. Yes the Seasumgus works really well. I also give it a mix of seasol and powerfeed every now and then as well. The back yard needs leveling in places so yes I will be purchasing some additional soil and mixing it in. Yep sand under the pavers - I have a builder mate who has oftered to assist which is fortunate. KTKTKT Still quite a list! Good luck. Keep us posted. No probs KT thanks. Re: My Landscaping, My Gymea Lilly Pic 22/11/2011 233Feb 05, 2012 2:59 pm KID, i am new here, but i just want to say. what you done is amazing, and gives me hope that my handy husband and i MAY just be able to pull off what i have envisioned for my front yard. AND you've also inspired me to keep my rocks and use them as a front border instead of using something prettier (and more expensive) at the moment they are pretty ugly, but i think that has a lot to do with the garden or lack there of behind them. so thanks again Re: My Landscaping, My Gymea Lilly Pic 22/11/2011 234Feb 07, 2012 7:31 am country bumpkin KID, i am new here, but i just want to say. what you done is amazing, and gives me hope that my handy husband and i MAY just be able to pull off what i have envisioned for my front yard. The key is to stay focused on your vision but set milestones along the way toward the finished product. Whenever I think I'll never get to the end I say to myself "Like Rome - my landscaping won't be built in a day" Good luck with your landscaping journey and please post pics. Re: My Landscaping, My Gymea Lilly Pic 22/11/2011 235Apr 20, 2013 6:58 pm KID your wall has come up really well. I'm building a Tasman retaining wall, about 50m long, at the moment. I've used the Selkirk blocks and they all have dags on them. To get them to sit right I've had to hit every block with the angle grinder. How were your blocks? Were you happy with the quality? Re: My Landscaping, My Gymea Lilly Pic 22/11/2011 236Apr 20, 2013 7:14 pm Important that when you build the veggie patch that the soil is not entirely compost. Very inefficient and in the view of some, environmental vandalism. Go for a blend of what's available in the yard, sand (or clay of you have sandy soil), zeolite, and around 20% organic compost. (two bags per m2). Only make the top 30cm of soil to be what you spend any time or money on. Below that can be bricks, your mother in law, sand, rocks, bags of money to be stashed, old shoes... what ever. The roots won't go deeper than 30cm. Sounds like you might have a batch of blocks with a manufacturing fault? I did not need to modify any of my blocks to build my wall. Have you contacted the supplier? Might be worth a call. Re: My Landscaping Journey 238Apr 23, 2013 2:59 pm Its been a long while since I updated this thread - a lack of time and money has had a significant impact on progress. However, now that my kids have started school this year (and the money pit of long daycare is no more) the money situation has improved. My rear boundary is made up of a combination of timber fence and my neighbours brick wall of his garage. The brickwork dates back to the early 70's so I had a bit of a poke and found the mortar in places was soft so I have spent a couple days over the past few weekends cleaning and repointing the wall. I must admit I hate repointing - it is tedious and mind numbing work. I filled the joints up flush with the brickwork so ended up with a bagged effect which looks a 100% on what was there. Next step is to give the wall a good scrub down and then after it is dry I will paint it with some solar guard to finish the job. I've got a before and after pic that I will post soon.
