Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 18, 2011 5:04 pm Hi Fu and whomever else wants to comment. We planted Ez in August last year, and it has gone very well except for a couple spots. I am not sure if this is shade related, soil related, nutrients being sucked up by the tree or something else. There is a spot where it grew for a little, but then died away and I can't tell exactly why. All treated the same, all with the same amount of water, powerfeed, etc, etc. but this section is poor. Have a look and see if you have any recommendations: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Before our rebuild that area behind the tree had some concrete and a couple of plants that were very shade tolerant but no turf so I'm thinking its more a shade/nutrient sucked up by the tree problem. Re: EZ not growing in some places, what do you think 2Feb 18, 2011 8:19 pm Definitely competition from the tree for water, food and sunlight. It's a tough spot, I would just make a slightly raised garden bed there instead. The only way to get grass to grow would be to dig the whole area up and pull all the roots out, which would knock the tree around. If you like the tree, I do looks great rather than straight lawn, then just put in a garden bed. Re: EZ not growing in some places, what do you think 3Feb 18, 2011 9:42 pm mine does the exact same and has no competition etc. it gets molasses, seasol and watered nearly every night.. still those sorts of patches.. poked holes to get water down there also... really not liking this type of lawn.. Harrisdale backyard finally done! EZ not growing in some places, what do you think 4Feb 19, 2011 12:20 am What soil prep was done prior to laying the turf? Re: EZ not growing in some places, what do you think 5Feb 19, 2011 4:53 am Not sure why that matters unless your supposed to do something different next to a tree in the shade. But anyways it's your standard sydney clay ground base with the 40 years of good soil that used to be home to your standard 50s buffalo with a layer of new soil on top. This is not some new block out in the sticks but a previously very well established garden with years of composting and such added. I have my wifes pictures of that tree when it was a seedling:) That's it. But as I say it is growing just fine everywhere else. EZ not growing in some places, what do you think 6Feb 19, 2011 9:16 am Still soil prep is critical with this turf variety. Layering soils can mean with many popular turf varieties they can't handle conditions or extremes. What's behind the fence? If shade is going to be an issue in your garden then look at planting other things in there. Dichondra would be a great choice. I often suggest blends of turfs but if ez isn't growing, then nor will popular varieties of soft leaf buffalo. Treat the area with molasses as per the molasses thread and see how it goes. To me shade like that shouldn't be an issue normally. No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6623 6 11470 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13777 |
