Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 16, 2007 8:28 am Just putting the question to the masses.
We have had our site cut and the rear RHS has had the most amount cut out of it. I am trying to work out if we will require a small retaining wall once the house is built or not. Possibly under/integrated into the fence on the side boundary. At our cost as the neighbours block is pretty flat... Hubby seems to think, that by the time the builder pours the slab and eventually backfills the block, there will be a minimal difference in height. What is everyones opinion on this??? Is that what happens??? I know we will have to wait and see but i like to over-analyze things. Re: Is a Retaining Wall Required here? 2Dec 16, 2007 10:12 am I think you might want to do something or the soil may keep falling in.
The house across the road from you, on the corner…..how nice is that!!!! It’s a shame the home next door isn’t as modern….they don’t sit well with each other. What housing company is the one on the corner? Who built it? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Is a Retaining Wall Required here? 3Dec 16, 2007 10:26 am I am not sure who the builder is Mish. The builder has built one or two other homes in the estate - that look similar and sells them off directly.
That one is advertised for sale.. I think that is is a little modern for the surrounding houses, but each to their own..... Workmanship is a bit cheap and nasty though....attention to detail obviously isn't one of this guys' strong points..... It could be worse i suppose, i should upload a pic of a house in another estate in Berwick, that has i think 4 different (fluro) colours on it!!!! No joke. Re: Is a Retaining Wall Required here? 4Dec 16, 2007 10:40 am Wait till the slab goes down.. you'll have a better idea of levels then. I would love to see the look on Michelle's face when she see's that place......I swear i thought it might have been a child-care centre at first!!! clath Yeah i have seen that house your talking about firthy dont know were ppl get their color sense from. Phoenix how big is your block? looks like you got a fair size back yard. Clath it is a 665m2 block, not as big as i would have liked...but oh well. We will only have about 1.7m (lost 30cm as had to move house back to get building approval) from the back of the alfresco to the back fence, but have garden on each side of the house. Re: Is a Retaining Wall Required here? 9Dec 23, 2007 7:48 pm had a look at a block today 1400sqm in pakenham thinking of buying it
needs a 90 l/m long x 4m high retaining wall materials came to $40000 and this is building it myself Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Is a Retaining Wall Required here? 10Dec 23, 2007 7:55 pm Troy, sorry but i hope the block is damn cheap because I wouldn't have thought that a $40,000 grand (your cost) retaining wall in Pakky is going to get much of a return when it comes time to sell. It's sad but people jut don't appreciate those sorts of things....
But 1400m2 is a fantastic size... There are a couple of our members out at Pakky. What sort of slope does the block have????? Re: Is a Retaining Wall Required here? 11Dec 23, 2007 8:01 pm Now that i think of it, even in Beaconsfield, where we were looking, and in Berwick where we actually bought, the site costs on some blocks were in excess of $100K, so they were quick drive-by's let me tell you!!!!
One of them sadly was a 1200m2 block too.... I'd love the space but it needs to be useable at the end of the day i suppose.... But how big is the slope ??? Re: Is a Retaining Wall Required here? 14Dec 23, 2007 8:09 pm I think a really nice retaining wall in a yard is just as good, sometimes better than a heap of gardens.
