I am doing all the Landscaping myself on my week off work, so your Guide has REALLY helped. I am doing a drip irrigation throughout, but I need to see how that works with turf. I can start on the garden without the keys on the weekend!! Can't wait. MP rotators are the go. The risks with sub under turf is too great. Gardens are fine. Under turf is an extremely expensive exercise and requires certified plumbers to install components that require certified maintenance each year. $$$$$$$$$$ MP's are extremely water efficient even for something above the ground Re: Fu Manchu's Guide to Laying Turf & More 176Sep 06, 2011 11:43 am Also subsurface irrigation should only be purchased from highly skilled outlets that know what is required to install a system. http://www.netafim.com.au/uploads/5%20E ... gation.pdf http://www.netafim.com.au/uploads/TECHL ... 0GUIDE.pdf Re: Fu Manchu's Guide to Laying Turf & More 177Sep 07, 2011 10:52 pm We just had our turf layed today. Overall I am quite happy with the final job, although after reading this forum I am a little concerned that we did not get a roller or compacter to go over the turf once it had been layed. The landscapers did not seem to think rolling is necessary. Fu - I understand that the purpose of the rolling/compacting is to give an even result and to ensure the grass is flat and close to the soil underlay for good attachment, but can you let me know what what would happen if we have not done this step? Will we still get an ok result? This is a great thread with so much useful information! I am hoping you could shed a bit more light on what will happen if we don't go over the turf with a roller or compacter? Re: Fu Manchu's Guide to Laying Turf & More 179Sep 10, 2011 1:45 pm Hi All We have just finished building south of rockingham, near the beach. We have about 260m2 of sand to turn to soil. The sand is surprisingly quite receptive to water but lacks any organic material. So here is what we have done. We have added 14m3 of organic compost and spread that out over the whole block (70 - 90mm). We also have added 500kg of bentonite and 100kg of zeolite. All this has been mixed in with a hoe to a depth of about 200-250mm. I am toying with the idea of spreading a 50mm layer of yellow brickies sand on top for the grass to sit on but it is more money and a lot of effort. Next weekend we will be installing the retic. My mate is a green keeper down south so he will be doing it with my help. We are not using subsurface for the lawn. We are using MP Rotator sprinklers. I found the MP1000 with bodies on the net for around $13ea. After the retic is down we will put the borders in, then lay the turf, which will be EZ. All the garden beds will be about 1.2m wide and full of natives. We got the compost delivered for $80 m3 Bentonite was $190 500kg Zeolite was $125 100kg Hopefully it all works out how we think it will. Sounds like you have put some massive effort into this! Where abouts did you get the above from at those prices? Everything I have found was almost double that price. I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 1930 Hey There. No problems re jumping in.
