A lot of dedication. There is certainly some impressive and creative designs online to inspire you. Don't see much topiary inspiration around Perth other than the occasional twisted pencil pine. Re: Topiary??? possible??? 9Jan 27, 2011 11:14 am ![]() Thankyou so much topiarius & kek, I'm excited now to get started!!! Off to Bnnings 1st though for some tools!!! I'll make a start over the weekend & keep a track on here of it's progress How awesome will it be when it's a ball of white flowers.....heaven!! ![]() I am not too far from Drovers so i will definitely jot those details down & call in when next over that way. Thanks once again ![]() Hi Cooper,if you follow the instructions for clipping in Set the standard after you have more growth that is when you will really see a change. When you cut a flat plate on the top of the plant it will throw out multiples. Then when you turn over the shears and start on the far side of the plant, this increases the slope and when you make the cut you will see the angled wound on top which will give you a single stem going out and slightly downward. As you make each cut move to one side and make the next cut and carry on like this because if you stand in one spot and tilt the shears you will get all your new growth going in the wrong direction. Then tilt your shears on their side with the slope going around the ball and go up and down cutting off all the loose branches level with the lower edge of the slope you have just cut and they will throw out multiples and thicken the sides. Now turn the shears with the slope pointing down and walk around cutting underneath to give you an angled cut with the wound underneath so the new growth goes up and into the plant. After you have done this a few times you will end up with a perfect ball instead of the bottom half looking like a cone and the top half rounded. Topiarius Re: Topiary??? possible??? 10Jan 27, 2011 2:20 pm I will endeavour to post some photos of gardenia standards I have here. Some just can't be killed ( I tried though ![]() ![]() Not only that they rarely need much work. On another note a mate of mine was given a tutorial in a nursery years ago from Topiarius. Lets just say the simple principles he taught him have meant that all his hedges and topiary's look perfection. Not those mis-shapen blobs we see so often. I took one look at them and said to him, "I bet I know who taught you that" and sure enough ![]() Re: Topiary??? possible??? The 1st Cut! 11Jan 31, 2011 8:53 pm Ok, after carefully following the advise from the guru's i have pruned the gardenia, everything below the yellow leaf has been removed! (including yellow leaf) Following this i fertilised with a slow release camelia, azalea & gardenia fertiliser. DF just looked at the final result & laughed at me!! ![]() ![]() Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Cooper's Build - Perth NOR viewtopic.php?f=31&t=30525 Prelim- mid Sept 2009, Pre Start 2 Feb, Siteworks- 21 April 2010, Slab- 10 May, Deliveries- all by 26 May Bricking- 28 May - 26 June, Roof complete 5 Aug, Float 28 Aug, Lock up 16 Sept Cabinets 1 Oct, Tiling 22 Oct, PCI 18 Nov, KEYS 3 Dec 2010 MOVED IN 17 DEC 2010 Re: Topiary??? possible???
