Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Garden bed barriers 3Jan 19, 2011 10:18 pm I use a trench with natural volcanic rocks as edging. They settle well and have a "natural" look. What do mean by "barrier" if you are not talking about keeping grass out of the garden beds? Re: Garden bed barriers 4Jan 20, 2011 2:10 pm We used treated pine (7.5cm high) to edge our garden beds - sourced from our local nursery. You can get jarrah in the same size but it's a bit more expensive. If I had the money I'd buy that FormBoss stuff but it was just way out of our price range. Second Time 'Round Re: Garden bed barriers 5Jan 20, 2011 2:19 pm We've also used treated pine, which I am not a fan of , however it came down to a very tight budget & DH's capabilities. So treated pine it is. I think the height is approx 15cm, and we've doubled that, so 30cm above ground (we're on clay here). Our veggie beds are no-dig and we surrounded them with besa blocks - I'd love some of those raised metal beds, but for now they are on the Wish List! Re: Garden bed barriers 6Jan 20, 2011 8:14 pm If not a grass barirer, then something substantial to lock in pavers is required - buried limestone blocks, concrete poured kerb etc. Need to make a decision on paving to choose most suitable edging.
