These are about to get manure dug in first because the soil is terrible there from being used as a footpath. I told my husband the other day that we would have more to worry about than whether our mulch was flammable if there was a bushfire and he agrees. Being surrounded by gums will probably be our main concern! Thanks gardenlover. It's a good point about the poo straight from the farm. I remember it being a problem when my grandad collected horse manure from the field next to his house for his roses. Horse poo is probably a little bit better, though we have enough weeds anyway so might not make the situation any worse! Why didn't the roots do so well then? Searching for "seasol" and "Fu Manchu" get a lot of results... Re: Peastraw / sugarcane / lucerne mulches - the best? 23Jan 24, 2011 2:41 pm I don't even know what Nitrosol is, though I'm guessing it adds lots of nitrogen... :S We've been using Powerfeed when watering plants until they get established (will be using molasses as soon as I can pick up a bucket of them) but I don't understand the difference between that and Seasol...? Peastraw / sugarcane / lucerne mulches - the best? 24Jan 24, 2011 10:48 pm All very different. Seasol is a natural plant stimulant. The king island bull kelp has some incredible properties. The cell walls become thicker in the leaves. They get tougher. Root systems are considerably larger as well. Powerfeed contains humic, fulvic and amino acids. A liquid compost essentially. That is fortified with minerals like nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. Very low amounts though. Amounts that are at levels really required because of what the other stuff does to the soils. The organic acids will work to break clays with regular use. Gypsum does it sort of effectively in a few years. Dolomite is better but not instant like powerfeed. Molasses, best just to read the thread on it that boosts soil microbial populations to huge levels. They work to break down organic compounds (material) into very usable nutrients we would normally by in a bag in massive amounts and get less from the investment. Peastraw / sugarcane / lucerne mulches - the best? 25Jan 24, 2011 10:49 pm Nitrosol is a truly liquid blood and bone fortified with nitrogen. Peastraw / sugarcane / lucerne mulches - the best? 26Jan 24, 2011 10:52 pm Fresh tree Lopper mulch is better still but alternating will deliver a varied diet for microbes and as a result better soil structure thanks to the microbes, plants will have good variety of minerals to use. Re: Peastraw / sugarcane / lucerne mulches - the best? 27Jan 25, 2011 2:15 pm I've already read all your molasses threads Fu Thanks for your help and explaining the differences between things - now I'm clearer on what they all are! Hi, I'd like some advice on the best option please on the estimate options we've been provided from our builder. This is for the… 0 4064 1 10997 4 9048 |
