Re: Garden venture - bit by bit 22Feb 03, 2011 8:44 pm is that zeolite from clarke rubber the right thing? they are like pellets .. anyway, the 15kg bag cost $26.95 and it did not even cover half of my ~40sqm front yard.. i used one of the empty plastic plant pots, filled it up then sprinkled it to the soil around the plants, then used the pitch fork to mix them up with the soil (rake's teeth are too close to each other so I used the pitch fork).. can't see the pellets when i mixed them so i put a few more don't know if i put too much but i guess it couldn't hurt.. will buy another two or three bags tomorrow to cover the rest.. then mulch time Oxford 22 @ Stage12a Point Cook Site Cut : 05/03/2010 Slab Pour : 24/03/2010 Frame Inspected : 06/04/2010 Pre-plaster Inspection: 22/04/2010 PCI: 16/07/2010 Final Inspection: 30/07/2010 Landscaping: who knows??? Even if you were on sand, that link said 2kg per 10 meter sq, so you should have used about 8kg for 40msq at most surely?! I think it's supposed to go in the whole bed, not just around the plants as well :S Draco, you need the Fu sign! FUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do the same for your garden beds and have the very same benefits of ultra low maintenance, lower water or no water needs in some places, and stuff all problems with the plants growing in that wonderful healthy soil Re: Garden venture - bit by bit 25Feb 03, 2011 10:13 pm Fu, is too much zeolite bad? i don't really measure anything that I put on soil (mollasses, seasol powerfeed or bactivate), i just scoop it up and put it in Oxford 22 @ Stage12a Point Cook Site Cut : 05/03/2010 Slab Pour : 24/03/2010 Frame Inspected : 06/04/2010 Pre-plaster Inspection: 22/04/2010 PCI: 16/07/2010 Final Inspection: 30/07/2010 Landscaping: who knows??? MyHomeoneThread Our Oxford22 Blog Re: Garden venture - bit by bit 26Feb 03, 2011 10:56 pm I like your style. Does Jamie Oliver ever measure anything? No I use as much zeolite as I can. I also use as much bentonite as I can and spongolite too. Then in the garden beds over the years I will chuck some around into the mulch and let the microorganisms and water do their thing to work it through For you in clay the zeolite, spongolite, perlite will all help aerate the clay and stop leaching of nutrients in heavy rain. Some sand but not heaps and then the organic composts. It's what is in those that does so well to break up the clay and over the years ahead it will get fluffier and fluffier in garden beds Lawns can't be fluffy Re: Garden venture - bit by bit 27Feb 05, 2011 11:09 am thanks much Fu.. after the heavy rain last night, I thought that the organic soil I put on top washed away as last night when I went out, i can only see brown patches. This morning, I checked it and it seems that the organic soil got compacted and sipped underneath the clay that I dug last time. Also, I can se the zeolites that I sprinkled the other day, is this normal? Or maybe it is because the soil went underneath and they were left on top? Went for a drive today also to BAAG to buy some more zeolites. They got 3 bags of 25 kg left on the shelf, bought them all Will rake them in today again. Not the lot thogh, maybe half a bag or 1 bag. Will use the other two bags for the future garden beds at the back Oxford 22 @ Stage12a Point Cook Site Cut : 05/03/2010 Slab Pour : 24/03/2010 Frame Inspected : 06/04/2010 Pre-plaster Inspection: 22/04/2010 PCI: 16/07/2010 Final Inspection: 30/07/2010 Landscaping: who knows??? MyHomeoneThread Our Oxford22 Blog Re: Garden venture - bit by bit 28Feb 09, 2011 2:09 am It's all pretty normal. Nice to know the compost has gone down where the roots will actually be growing. Get into perlite, spongolite also as they will assist in clay soils just as much Re: Garden venture - bit by bit 29Feb 09, 2011 1:16 pm Good to know we don't need to worry about overdosing on zeolite. My toddler helped apply it... :S Re: Garden venture - bit by bit 30Feb 09, 2011 11:50 pm Cool, he/she would have had a ball getting in and helping mum Re: Garden venture - bit by bit 31Feb 10, 2011 10:32 am She likes to 'sprinkle, sprinkle', but when she saw me using an old jug to sprinkle from, she deployed her bucket. Unfortunately, her sprinkling from a bucket effectively means tipping the whole thing on one place Still, I haven't got as much zeolite on my garden as Draco and he can't blame a toddler for that!!
