Thought maybe clothes line inbetween the 2 small windows at the back. North facing side of the house What about a dry river bed type area- grasses and succulants, rocks Have to put a gate across but trying to decide if behind the garden tape or right back so the large section at the front is actually part of the front yard? Any ideas and thoughts appreciated! Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... Retaining walls and landscaping Re: our side yard- some ideas please 2Jan 05, 2011 8:00 pm I think houses look a little odd with the boundary fence flush with the facade of the house. Most new estates I've seen the side fence/gates set back about 1m. Just behind that side window would look good. Depends if you want the front yard to appear larger or not? Sounds like a great space for a clothesline down that side. Have you put any water tanks in? Could be a plan for the future to utilise that space aswell. Veggie garden/herb garden? Quiet spot to read. I love natives, so a rock garden, or with some native grasses sounds lovely Re: our side yard- some ideas please 4Jan 07, 2011 2:40 pm We have water tanks at the back of the house- now wish we had put them here though. Our vege patch, chook house and kids area will go down the back on the bottom level of our yard- all hidden away by top level. Thanks for the ideas though Our living areas look out here so I really dont want to view the fence that will be there! You wont be able to see the clothes line though because its inbetween those two long thin windows. Any ideas of names of grasses and plants that would suit a dry river bed/ rock garden??? They get up to full height (900mm) fairly quickly and look good with no watering. in between we have clumps of bluegrass. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! It worked really well. Re: our side yard- some ideas please 8Jan 11, 2011 7:14 pm Thanks everyone! Lou we too want to use this as side access to the back yard, I love both your pictures. Thank you for posting them Hmm so too hot for too many rocks- what about a path like in the second picture of Lou's but with rocks on either side- also planted out with succulants and grasses?? Im not good at maintaining plants which is why I love succulants as they are good at looking after them selves! Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Maybe a small dry creek bed area as part of it.
