Hellooooo
I've read through the great thread of suggestions for a 100% shaded area and wondered why nobody suggested G. Manicata. Is it too hard to get here?
We're just sorted out the fencing/irrigation/fertilising for the area at the side of our house, which gets a little morning sunlight, but is generally moist and shaded. My 2 1/2 year old wants a jungle and we love plants with great structure, so we were planning on having some G. manicata, Monstera delicosa, Fatsia japonica and Zantedeschia elliottoana or rehmannii (Calla NOT Arum lillies, which are invasive here) along with the obvious ferns as the main plantings.
Anyone growing these plants, particularly the Gunnera, who can let us see some pics of how they're doing and suggest some sources?
Also, there were 4 D. antarticas seemingly dead in our garden when we moved in. We've removed the tops and replanted them in the shaded area, with some good fertiliser and watering in, but I think they've been gone for so long there's no chance of recovery. Shame as one is about 5 foot. Anyone experience of this?
Hard to resist a midnight raiding party up the road to choose some ferns...
Thanks
