Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 29, 2010 1:44 pm What do you have under your verandah? My current house (bought established) has painted concrete which is versatile although I'm aware that it can also be expensive to have layed. (Plus, I don't think it's nice to look at) Paving can look nice but what about the weeds? And decking is what I'd love to have but I fear the cost and maintenance. One thing I'm also aware of is the enormous mess I make outside - I'm a painter and a messy one at that so end up with paint drips and splatter all over my concrete floor. My gerny cleans up most of it and the rest I make myself feel better about having around by saying it adds character. I guess I could learn to lay a drop mat when I paint though hehe What is the most cost effective outdoor flooring and what would you recommend? Building in Bacchus Re: Decking, Paving, Concrete or something else? 2Dec 29, 2010 7:32 pm We are weighing up the same options at the moment We have opted for a low deck made from Merbau... thats what we had at our previous house, and we loved it.... Merbau is very hard wearing, and only needs a coat of oil every year or two.... decking oil is not too pricy, and super easy to recoat with a lambswool pad on a broom stick thingie (technical term!!) Our Merbau deck took a fair battering from two kids and a dog without any problem.... not sure it would handle paint drips however , and if you pressure wash it, it will need more oiling... Also, the other benefit of decking, is that being DIY'ers on a budget, we can do a little at a time as we can afford it ...and we know that Merbau wont be discontinued, unlike pavers can be over time... PLUS we dont have to excavate the area to build a deck which also saves money! good luck with your choice!! Built the 'Urbis' by J G King We are in, now the work begins!!! Re: Decking, Paving, Concrete or something else? 3Dec 29, 2010 7:39 pm As long as the pavers are under the veranda there shouldn't be a weed problem. At a previous house we had 225mm x 225mm pavers laid on 75 mm thick sand with 5% cement bed and didn't have any problems in ten years. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 13522 As most others have posted above the install isn't compliant.
