Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 12, 2010 9:51 pm Hi everyone, I used to live in a unit so i have no idea how to keep a lawn, we moved to a townhouse 6 mths ago. The lawn wasn't great when we moved in but not as bad as it is now, the dry patch seems getting bigger, also i have no idea what type of lawn we have, any suggestion on how to revive the lawn? do i need to rip it out and lay fresh turf again? Thanks in advance Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 2Dec 12, 2010 10:36 pm You have a nice soft leaf buffalo Get some certified organic compost form your garden centre. Spread that over the rubbish areas and lightly through the good bits Where do you live? I'll help you source some compost, if you are in Victoria, BAAG in Bulleen will have certified organic compost in bags Seamungus in the green bucket, molasses. Using an old steak knife, cut out some of the good bits and plant them in the crap bits Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 3Dec 12, 2010 11:07 pm Hi Fu, I got "lured" into this forum from another forum hahaha, just checked out few of your posts, you're a legend mate. I'm in Sydney, I got most my garden stuffs from Bunnings...but never heard of molasses, for gardening anyway Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 4Dec 12, 2010 11:38 pm There's a thread in here about using molasses. That place mentioned will have certified organic composts. ignore their advise and get the selected products I have mentioned. The Naked Farmer is sold there among other places, get that stuff. They do Seamungus in the Green Bucket. Most good independent garden centres will have it too. Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 5Dec 13, 2010 6:56 am This is gonna my 3rd trip to Bunnings in 3 days haha, I saw seamungus but not in green bucket, and i dont think Bunnings got The Naked farmer. I bought some potting mix for $6.5/bag 25kgs, are they good to spread over the dry patch? EDIT: is this the green bucket you're talking about? http://www.neutrog.com.au/assets/Brochu ... 0410lr.pdf Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 6Dec 13, 2010 8:30 am Yes - The seamungus in the green bucket listed in the corner of winter/non-flowering plants in the brochure. Potting mix is no good - Fu only recommends certified organic soil/compost - many many many posts on that one ANL does a certified organic soil but you probably don't need a truck delivery full. Naked Farmer is supposed to be stocked at Bunnings - its their organic soil activator that you want http://www.nakedfarmer.com.au/id67.html Molasses can be purchased from agricultural supply stores Looks like you've got lots of searching on the forum to do! EDIT: I've been to Bunnings in Parramatta, dont think they got Naked Farmer in stock, I just went to Blacktown Bunnings and they're closed! Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 8Dec 15, 2010 2:39 pm Bunnings at Bella Vista and Dural both have naked farmer and seamungus ...... Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 9Dec 16, 2010 12:10 pm jz714 I bought some potting mix for $6.5/bag 25kgs, are they good to spread over the dry patch? Potting mix will do very little but give you a right headache and you'll wonder why you did it. You need a certified organic compost and the naked farmer is one oif the best in regard to that. It is sold by the place you went too. It absolutely is. The green seamungus is also. I try to recommend products you guys can get easy enough. Sometimes though you will need to look outside the square to find the right stuff. The potting mix will have a long term adverse affect on what you are trying to achieve. Potting mix for pots and composts for soils. Adding potting mixes to soils will only serve to dry them out at enormous rates. When ever I mention certified composts, they will have the certification from either BFA (The Biological Farmers Association) or NASAA (National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia) http://www.bfa.com.au/ http://www.nasaa.com.au/welcome1.html Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 11Dec 29, 2010 12:51 pm ended up with a 25 Lt bucket from brandon molasses and a 12kgs seamungus and some certified organic compost from ANL. Cored the lawn with aerator today, blood and bone with seamungus tomorrow then compost on top the dry patch. Will post a photo of the cored lawn soon, doesnt look very nice with holes on the ground, maybe i did it wrong... Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 14Jan 02, 2011 6:59 pm That's looks the goods, wouldn't suggest raking the areas because the dead stuff is excellent orgainc input for the soil. Rake lihghtly with a wide plastic leaf rake or lawn rake to level the surface once the yummy bits are down, cut out some healthy turf with the old steak knife and plant them in the poo bits. Molasses, molasses molasses! Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 15Jan 05, 2011 8:31 pm I got told to de-thatching the lawn before aerate?!, I'm too scare to use the metal rake so I use the other end the rake/flat bit to spread and level the compost... I've been use molasses once a week, maybe too much? and should I mix blood and bone with seamungus into the compost? Need help on revive my lawn... 16Jan 05, 2011 11:39 pm I understand that you guys would get bombarded with conflicting advice and info at every turn. All I can assure you is that you don't know who I am so let's ignore what gets thrown at you all and go with my advice Re: Need help on revive my lawn... 17Jun 26, 2017 12:46 pm Hi Guys, I was Googling for answers on how to revive my Sir Walter lawn when I came across this thread. I hope it's not wrong to revive an old thread rather than start a new one. Anyway, my problem is that my lawn looks a lot yellower than my neighbours, but then again, my neighbour laid his lawn 6 months ago just before Christmas whereas mine is about 2 years old. Furthermore, we're now in Winter. It still doesn't stop my jealousy over how green his lawn looks or my concern that I need to do something. Here is a photo of my front lawn and you can see the neighbour's lawn in the background looks a lot greener. I've tried lawn greener products for Buffalo from Bunnings but it's done nothing. From what I've read in this forum and elsewhere, I need to use the following: Molasses - I just need to source some from an agricultural supply shop near Maitland. SeaSol - I have been using the "snap on hose" one, but I might change to a watering can so I can be sure of the dosage is correct. This thread also talks of "Seamungus in the green bucket". Firstly, is this a replacement to SeaSol? Secondly, the link in one of the posts above is dead. Researching "Seamungus" and it seems it's now operated by a company called Neutrog. Bunnings don't have it in a bucket, but do have this Neutrog 15kg Seamungus Seaweed Granule Garden Fertiliser. Is this the same as what was originally called "Seamungus in the green bucket"? Also mentioned in this thread is "The Naked Farmer". Is this fertiliser or a top soil, or just a supplier? Thanks in advance. the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4858 Hi there, I'm a conplete newbie to this, but I'm looking to put a floor down in my 6x9m shed.
