Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 11, 2010 9:54 pm Hi. I bought 6 gardenia florida plants and planted them 3 months ago. They produce a lot of flower bulbs but wont bloom and just fall from the plant. Some have a slight black coloring. I am doing some research about this and one of the cause might be my soil is not that acidic as this kind of flowers need acidic type. I live here in west suburb of melbourne. Anyone who have experienced this with a gardenia florida? Any advice is appreciated. thanks. Re: what is wrong with my gardenia florida? 2Dec 12, 2010 7:08 am I have three of them in a planter box and they held onto there buds the whole of the first winter. Some of them have bloomed but other dropped of as you said. One thing I know is they love a feed and really do not like the hot arvo sun down here. I have mine in a bright spot with only a few morning hours of direct sun light and they are doing fine. Give them another year and see how they are going, keep up the organics/seasol etc and then if there is no love look at testing your soil and adjusting it. Mine did not flower for the first 14 months. Re: what is wrong with my gardenia florida? 3Dec 12, 2010 8:55 pm Forget feeding them! Feed the soils microbes instead. Here on the Lower West Coast they could not hate our salty winds, our ripping high winds, our sand, the pH and no organic content in the soil more than anywhere on the planet. I'll go tweet a picture of mine and that is with no chemical fertiliser at all in 3 years. None! Just molasses, tree loppers mulch, straws, worm wee. The leaves are so perfect the look and feel like plastic. I just ignore the plant and feed the soil Enter the fertiliser this and manganese that and good luck as you go on a roller coaster of growth and problems @TheFuManchu Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ That is light reflecting not nutrient deficiency.
