After much reading/learning etc after the fact we ended up with a front lawn that was a disaster. With the water restrictions and cost of water we decided to rip the front up.

The basic concept was a new kerb paralell to the existing one, crushed rock in between and a central garden bed.

And that brings me to the next stages. The dianella grasses will be used to line just inside the kerb, as it is in the established garden, I was then thinking a row of kangaroo paws of various colours, finished off with 2 or 3 grass trees and one feature tree in the centre. Maybe some moss rocks from my parents hills property. I have also run conduits for lighting at some stage too.
I invisage that the dianellas, and kangaroo paws will be planted in paralell rows to each other and the kerb. Will be staying away from Bee attracting plants as its next to the driveway.
My questions are this:
What are peoples thoughts on the feature tree? I have searched and read/learnt heaps about this subject on this forum and have narrowed it down to the Claret Ash, the London Plane (read that its not good alergy wise) or the Ginko that FU raves about.
My preferance is for a decidious tree, as the front yard faces west and i like the concept of summer shade and winter sun. Evergreen will be ok though.
It is worth noting that i need to take into account the sewer inspection pipe is inside the bed as is 2 or 3 soakwells, so any feature tree will need to be relatively freindly root wise to those obsticles.
That brings me to my next question, if i plant a decidious tree, that may eventually shade/have leaves fall on the grasstrees, will this harm the grasstrees?
While im at it and a bit of a follow up to previous posts about my native back garden that FU helped me with please find below some new pics:

Sorry for the quality but the garden is growing nicely now and blending in with the native bush that we back onto.
Oh and the water feature too which the father in law built and i cladded with the rock tiles.
