Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 02, 2010 10:03 am I'm getting some landscaping done by a reputable company, and with the rain today and the sleepers now being very wet, they have changed appearance (gotten darker obviously) and I have noticed something about the 200x75x2400mm H4 treated pine sleepers they are putting in. It kind of looks like the cca treatment hasn't fully penetrated - or at least is a lot stronger in some parts? Looking at the end of the sleeper (cross section), each sleeper looks like its from the centre of the tree based on the growth rings. It looks like it was treated "in the round" before being cut into a sleeper, so the treatment is strong on each end of the cross section (outer part of the tree), but hasn't coloured the inner growth rings. The colouring is shallow enough that when viewed from the front you can see that the top and bottom of the face of the sleeper have a lot more treatment than the middle (as the middle is further away from the edges of the round trunk). Is this normal? Panicking my sleepers are going to be rotten in a year... Re: Is this treated pine ok? 2Dec 02, 2010 12:57 pm No pics means cant verify anything. However...You cant actually see "treatment" on the sleepers. So what you're seeing is probably just fading of the timber. The wood will fade and go grey eventually regardless of treated or not. The sleepers are treated after they cut, not before. The only issue I'd be concerned with is that they have been left out in the wet, and then when then sun hits them, they will warp like nothing you have seen before. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you going to have the frame exposed or are you cladding it with something. Usually if you are making an exposed frame you would use solid legs around 100x100 or… 3 6579 Iām just in the process of replacing 2 stud walls that have been severely damaged by termites and am planning to use h2 blue pine. I just wanted to if anyone can advise… 0 52849 Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck?
