Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 23, 2010 10:27 am We are putting in a new front sliding gate with remote control entry, then fence and pedestrian gate. Curb Appeal! The first choice would be to have timber for the sliding gate, pedestrian gate and fencing build into rendered wall, however we have gotten a gate company out to quote and he said Aluminum with Dulux Powder Coating is the way to go as we are in a coastal suburb and the salt air would just mean alot of ongoing maintence to keep the timber looking good. (I do not like the grey look!) Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I know absolutely nothing about gates, fencing, is this a popular choice? Is it durable? Thanks in advance for any thoughts. Re: Aluminum Gates / Front Fencing 2Nov 23, 2010 8:41 pm Hi We are doing the same thing with a sliding gate and a pedestrian gate but with brick pillars as well. It is not cheap!! I love the powder coated stainless steel as you have a great range of designs to choose from. We are going with a contemporary vertical fin design. Powder coating does fade over a period of years and I am not sure how it well it would go in a coastal area - I guess it depends how close you are to the water and if there is a lots of salt haze in your area. If it is looked after it will last for years. Caz Re: Aluminum Gates / Front Fencing 3Nov 24, 2010 1:18 pm I love all the colours and designs too! We've been quoted just over $8000 for the sliding gate, motor and pedestrian gate (all installed), will need to add some sort of fencing to this. We are about 7 blocks from the ocean so it is mainly just breezes we get. I guess I just wonder which needs less maintanence between timber and the aluminum.. Re: Aluminum Gates / Front Fencing 4Nov 26, 2010 9:29 pm I am building gates ATM - 316 Stainless steel frame with horizontal jarrah cladding. They will swing off natural limestone 500 x 500 pillars. I chose these materials because I love the look of them and they are very durable. I live close to the beach. Timber will be oiled with Intergrain Ultradeck which is good for a few years. I will post up some pictures once they are up. Dont know the maintanence regime for powder coated aliminium but I think you are doing the right thing to find out as it may be that the contractor is talking you into the product to suit his needs. Try to find some 5 yo similar gates that are in a similar location and inspect them closely. Need to remove glass panel out of concrete without wrecking the glass to get the spa room in, any recommendations on how to do that. Thank you 0 39046 We are at the stage on our build in Kilcoy, Queensland where we need to get our fencing installed but we cant get any contact details for our neighbours to give them… 0 6160 Get some long brass machine screws and bolt right through the gate and put brass acorn nuts and washers on the other side. It will never come off 1 9074 |
