Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 22, 2010 3:14 pm The following images are of my garden provided by the builder. In the images you can see that my plants have some sort of growth on their leaves. The plants seem to be growing and surviving just fine despite this growth. I have tried generic supermarket bought fungus removal for plants spray and it has made absolutey no difference. Therefore, I am now asking for advise from those who know more about plants then me (I know nothing!). What is this growth on my plants? How do I get rid of this growth? Thank you in advance. Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! Re: What is wrong with my plants? 3Nov 22, 2010 6:26 pm Looks like its a Lilly Pilly Psyllid. Spraying Confidor should kill the bugs, its a systemic pesticide that's required because the insect lives inside the leaf. By the time you see the damage, its too late. The damage they cause is only cosmetic and wont harm the plant. Stressed plants are more prone to Psyllids so once you've picked off the infected foliage, keep plenty of water up to the plant and fertilise it with a quality slow release fertiliser. That is if it is what I think it is.... I can't say I can even come close to endorsing the use of this product because of what it is known to do to you and the environment! It has even had a mention in the wikileaks scandal. It's part of a group of insecticides that are destroying world bee populations. If the bees become extinct then so do humans, they pollinate our food http://www.fastcompany.com/1708896/wiki ... -pesticide http://www.grist.org/article/food-2010- ... pesticide- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imidacloprid Now one application may not seem much but collectively it is dong some major work on things. I won't use it in my nurseries, landscapes, garden or anywhere near me. Just clip the foliage off, that's all that is needed. They will be back just the same whether you spray or clip so just clip The alternative sprays are also seriously nasty to you and the little buggers. lily Pillys would have to be some of the most disease prone plants in the nursery industry and to stop these pests means a lifetime of spraying chemicals. Maybe get in touch with someone from http://www.goodbugs.org.au/ They may have a good bug for them, but I'm not aware of one yet Re: What is wrong with my plants? 7Jan 02, 2011 12:33 pm Thanks Fu Manchu. My pet psylids are still going strong living in my leaves.
