When reading it replace the words "turf roll" with "seed". After throwing out the seed use a roller not a compactor to get good contact with the soil. As discussed in many threads turf is expensive but you can just get a few rolls of top quality turf and pull them apart planting the runners as you would seed. You will get a far better self repairing all round grass this way that will last as long as you want it too.
