I'm thinking they would be too hard for the wormies in my worm farm but I imagine they would break down over time on the garden?? Strange kinds of mulch 4Nov 10, 2010 3:49 pm Chuck em in the wormfarm. They are of far greater benefit in there than the garden. The worms will eventually break them down but fungi will need to do their thing first and then some of the smaller inhabitants of the worm farm worms will consume anything that was once living. You'd be amazed what worms can process and do Re: Strange kinds of mulch 10Nov 15, 2010 7:45 pm OK the pistachio shells went in the wormies farm! i think I need to buy more worms, I only got 500. Oh another question - is it ok if food goes mouldy in there? Will the wormies still eat it? I figure they will as they live in dirt etc where things go 'off' and it would be just part of the breaking down process? 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' There will in time be a bunch of thingies living in there. Mites, other worm species and of course your composting tiger and red worms. Right now I have been seeing the mites under the lid bringing down ferment fly maggots. Just amazing. We do chuck in a heap of fruit in there so no biggie. Load it up with dolomite of lime. Some clean sand as well to help the worms digest it all a bit quicker and easier In my farm, the mites will groom the worms and they nab mould outbreaks on breads and pastas.
