Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 10, 2010 12:00 pm I recently laid 70m2 of Sir Walter in SE Melbourne. Job went well....poisoned old lawn, waited 3 weeks, took away old lawn, got in rotary hoe, turned in 5ms of good organic soil, levelled and then laid grass. Most installation guides tell you to top dress Sir Walter with a sand. I had this done by a landscaper at my previous place and the lawn turned out beautifully. This time I did it myself and I think I may have overdressed. I have since taken a lot of the sand off but the lawn remain a bit patchy. It is 4 weeks old now and I would estimate the ground is 85% covered with lawn and 15% sand patches. Should I do anything else or just let it go? I have been diligent with water and Seasol once a week? Re: Need your advice Fu 2Nov 10, 2010 12:47 pm I never suggest to top dress with sand. It contributes to nutrient leaching, won't keep nutrients for the lawn, doesn't add to the health of the soil and just covers a problem that will reappear the same later. That's because of the reason posted Oh No! So what do you do? Well take away as much of the sand you can. Get some organic compost down instead and have oit so the tops of the leaves come through. You'll never use sand again Molasses and "seamungus green" sorted Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder.
