The Arborist (I'm no Arborist!)at a Botanic Gardens here in Perth says that many trees to 3-5m are fine at around 1.5m from a home in most situations. It is a bit close for comfort for my liking but if you like it leave it there. If it gives you better peace of mind, then cut it down.
