Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 08, 2010 12:59 pm Hey All, Had a skim through Fu's Turf thread and put some turf down on the weekend. Its just shy of 100sqm of turf we put down (Kikuyu Couch, wasnt going to go for Buffalo as the dog is pretty rough on grass). With lawn prep we put down some Lawn Mix of Gin-Gin Loam, Sand and Peat (about 3sqm over the 100sq's) and turned it in with a fork. I picked up the turf in a large cage trailer on Saturday morning (advised it was cut friday). Put it in the Garage (still in the trailer) and wet the outsides as they were dry as after the trip home from the turf farm. Now when we layed the turf about midday on sunday some of the turf in the trailer has started steaming and I think break down. We layed it (with gloves, some of it was hot as!) rolled it with a roller, soaked it and smashed some Powerfeed onto it. Just wondering if there is anything specific I need to do to ensure those parts root down (apart from good dosing of Water, Seasol, Powerfeed and Molasses). Its like 1/2 the roll is a really dark green/brown the other half is green with some yellow. Re: New Turf - Breaking down 2Nov 08, 2010 11:17 pm You have done what is required. It began to compost and some spots will have died off. It's cool though as they will have healthy lawn grow into those areas just fine Resist the temptation to fertilise it. This is not going to assist you in any way shape or form. Things like the soil amendments such as zeolite and bentonite clay are absolutely essential during the soil prep stages and make a very large difference in situations like yours. I'd get myself some "seamungus green" in the green bucket and get that onto it. Just that and the molasses will be fine They using concrete or timber sleepers? Timber or steel uprights? Any drainage behind sleeper? 3 5801 How long is a "long period"? For a few weeks, it should be ok. It also depends on the area you live in...I would let your neighbours know that you will be away too and… 1 28544 Hi HomeOne, I'm in the midst of landscaping a cat run down the side of my house, and the recent rains have me wondering if I need to install some sort of drainage.
