You must be very happy with it It' been a long time coming but yes I'm really chuffed with the way it came out. The Dirt Lawn was driving me nuts with the kids. My DP is out giving the lawn it's first drink of Seasol / Powefeed. The turf is about 2 hours old. The turf guy said I should give up my I.T. job and take up landscaping. I think my body, (particularly my back) has other ideas though. And I hope you'll also give us a step by step of your other upcoming retaining wall WIP Thanks Lex, I will post pics of the rear yard wall but for now I've decided to take a break for a little bit so I can reacquaint myself with this concept they call weekends. Re: My Side Yard (New Pics 6/11/10) 10Nov 07, 2010 10:58 am love the look of that retainer with the black fencing along it. Really nice. Congrats on a job well done. Lawn looks lovely. Re: My Side Yard (New Pics 6/11/10) 11Nov 07, 2010 11:16 am kexkez love the look of that retainer with the black fencing along it. Really nice. Congrats on a job well done. Lawn looks lovely. Cheers, thanks. The fence, plain as it is, does come up looking pretty good. Being black in colour, it blends into and disappears somewhat into the background and after a few minutes you don't even notice it's there. The fence was an e-bay buy and has been sitting in the garage since we moved in. I've still got the gate and about 6 m2 of paving up the front near the air-con to do to finish this part, but for the time being, I'm really pleased what I have achieved. It took longer than I wanted it to. We moved in xmas last year. Like most people I work full time so I'm definitely a weekend warrior and then combine that with 2yo twins (3 yo this month) and the weather and hey presto the time soon gets away from you. I got my bobcat work done in late Jan, then I fixed up the front yard first. Blocks for the retaining wall were delivered in April. I backfilled and leveled the soil behind the wall and then had to remove about 6 tonne of excess fill by hand. Concreting the Fence post in along the wall and the in-fill panels came next. I got a load of topsoil from my mate the bobcat driver and loaded it up with Olsens and powerfeed etc. and the turf went down yesterday. Re: My Side Yard (New Pics 6/11/10) 14Nov 07, 2010 12:16 pm wow.. so much effort but it really pays off.. yes i too am an IT worker that doesn't fancy himself as too much of a handyman.. but i guess i'll challenge myself by giving it a go once our house is built did you do this all by yourself or did you have the help of friends or family Project History Deposit - 20/4/2010 Land Settled - 20/8/2010 Council - 30/9/2010 Slab - 17/11/2010 Bricks - 28/01/2011 Roof - 5/02/2011 Gyprock - 4/03/2011 Re: My Side Yard (New Pics 6/11/10) 15Nov 07, 2010 12:45 pm The initial Bobcat work was completed by a mate of mine and I engaged a concreting contractor to do the strip foundation for the wall. I saved some cash on the concreting by helping them do the form-work and being another man with a wheelbarrow rather than using a concrete pump. (This was a huge saving) Everything else is you see is my doing. Apart from the cost savings, (notwithstanding it took me 10 months to get this far) DIY is a challenge that can be / is very rewarding when you see the finished product. The beer also tastes better when you can look over what you have created as well. Re: My Side Yard (New Pics 6/11/10) 17Nov 07, 2010 8:12 pm joles :: Great work!
