You could go even wider too I guess. Are you going to run wire between? Or use a trellis? Are you going to use timber posts or galv steel? I'd use some galv steel and then run galv cable between them. I'm thinking wooden posts so that I can then put some lattice on top to block my new neighbours view of my outdoor area. Not decided on the 'roping' either fishing line or wire or something. Local steel shop would be able to cut it to size you need. Then run galv cable about 300mm apart maybe 400mm apart. You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want.
