Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 03, 2010 6:39 am Hi guys, Can anyone help me identify these 2 little wattles? They seem to be identical apart from one being silvery, and the other more like purple (and I love these both!!!). They seem to be of a tree type, not shrub. The purple one is about 60-70 cm high, the silvery one smaller by some 20-30 cm. Re: Which wattle is this ? 6Nov 03, 2010 10:36 pm Many wattles are very big weed problems. Here in the West the national floral emblem, the Golden Wattle is a weed. There are loads and loads that are. They can be a right menace in the wrong area. Best to choose a wattle that is local to your area or at least state Weedy wattles cost this country millions in trying to eradicate invasive species. Re: Which wattle is this ? 7Nov 10, 2010 11:41 pm OMG I didnt know this. We bought Acacia Saligna from Native nursery and planted about 6 of them out the front of our land (5 acres). Do you think this will be a problem. They r over a year old and thriving - I was so proud of them. Now Im wondering if we should rip them out Re: Which wattle is this ? 8Nov 11, 2010 12:42 am Doh, This is a bit sad. We have an acacia that we put in 8 years ago, and have loved watching it grow. I am wondering now if we should get rid of ours too. I will try and get a pic of it and see if we can get it identified. Re: Which wattle is this ? 10Nov 11, 2010 4:13 am Redman Did Bunnings have it on special along side the Mexican rush and Patterson's Curse? Weed City my land. And now Im buying the weeds and planting them. I give up Re: Which wattle is this ? 11Nov 13, 2010 12:06 pm Acacia saligna is from SW WA. A lot of acacias are potential environmental weeds - just keep an eye on the seedlings and remove them if you don't want them in a certain spot. Acacia iteaphylla is used widely in Perth as a screening plant. It's awesome but they should not be planted near areas of bushland because they can spread. Just be sure of the botanical name and research where it was from originally. Re: Which wattle is this ? 12Nov 13, 2010 12:10 pm I certainly wouldn't put them in the same category as paterson's curse! Black on light wood does look good. Not sure if it will be as long lasting as a steel finish? 6 6352 brokers will also be in a position to get you a better rate than the advertised rate most times. 6 7575 Thank you.
