i strongly suggest getting a cheap sprayer. Then get a product called "BinDie"from a Queensland company called "Chemspray". It is available in every major nursery including Bunnings. It comes in an orange box. It has some goodies in it that are far more effective than the ones found in weed and feed and the granular weed and feeds (which are totally different and effect different weeds). You can apply it with a watering can too, but a sprayer will give you better results and conserves water a little better. I always suggest that it is sprayed at the start of the day, make sure it won't rain for at least two days (just to be sure), make sure it isn't windy (otherwise more herbicide ends up on you or the garden than on the lawn ) and that they add two or three drops of dishwashing liquid (this makes the herbicide penetrate the hairs of the leaves and therefore be absorbed much more effectively). It is also suggested that a teaspoon of urea or seasol will increase the effectiveness of the herbicide without being of a benifit to the weeds. A bit like acting as an "amplifier" if you like. A bit more work than applying bad for the environment granular weed and feed but well worth it. After the weeds die off start getting bits of heathy lawn and plant them around the bare patches. then feed the soil (not the plant) with blood and bone or seasol and powerfeed and a light application of lawn fert and your weed patch will be well on it's way to a full recovery. for eastern staters I would suggest using the miricle grow lawn food (which was being sold as Scotts lawn builder and also Osmocote lawn builder) Re: Lawn and prickles - what to do?? 22Nov 28, 2007 8:05 am Steve wrote: Quote: Come off it Gav Quote: If it is in you backyard, you should haven't any dramas, just do it early evening - dusk.. or when ever your neighbors aren't home.. Steve This is the way I look at it currently Steve, What Stage 3a means Under Stage 3a water restrictions gardens can be watered on specified watering days only in the morning: A hand-held hose fitted with trigger nozzle, a watering can, bucket and manual dripper system can be used to water from 6am – 8am An automatic dripper system can be used to water from midnight - 2.00am No watering of lawns at any time No watering in the evening No watering on Monday, Thursday and Friday As with Stage 3, even-numbered houses can water on Saturday and Tuesday and odd-numbered houses can water on Sunday and Wednesday. If your property does not have a number, it is considered an even numbered property. As per our council. If I chose not to water my plants/garden for two weeks I certainly don't have a problem with using that water for my lawn front or back. I will still do it between the hours specified. But I don't have a problem with it. You are dead right we shouldn't abuse the resource and I don't think I am, plenty of people do but there could also be a compromise and common sense should prevail.. As it is I only use the little blokes bath water anyway through the pump I bought in the recycle bin, I haven't used the hose with normal water to water the garden or the grass in over twelve months.
