Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 31, 2010 1:49 pm Afternoon All, I am completely stumped as to what to do with the area between my driveway and my neighbours. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My neighbours (renters) have decided they are quite happy just to have weeds but i think it doesn't look that great. So far i have killed all of the weeds and am slowly pulling them all out. I am after some suggestions as to what to do/what to plant in this area. Just for info we have both water meters in the space and my storm water pipes. Because of the pipes I'm a bit worried about having anything with big roots that may damage the pipes in the future. This is what i have done so far. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Katherine Re: Advice Please.... Area between driveways 2Oct 31, 2010 2:24 pm I'd just whack some sort of Lomandras in, with either black mulch or white pebbles underneath, depending on what look you are after. Geoff - Decophile. Re: Advice Please.... Area between driveways 3Oct 31, 2010 3:47 pm Thanks for the advice Geoff, Any ideas what to do to add a bit of colour also? What about some Dwarf Purple Flax?http://www.plantinspirations.com.au/detail.php?id=ID1282526410&name=Dwarf%20Purple%20Flax%20x%2010%20Plants%20Phormium%20Garden%20Grass%20Strap&type=home Would they work well with the Lomandras? Has anyone purchased plants from Plant Inspirations? Their prices seem reletaively cheap comepared to some of the places ive looked at. http://www.plantinspirations.com.au Thanks Again Katherine Re: Advice Please.... Area between driveways 4Nov 01, 2011 3:17 pm Katherine, I've just updated in another post re my plant order which arrived from them yesterday.... <https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=52126&p=798148#p798148> It will be a miracle if the plants survive and there has been no reply to my email, even though they ask for feedback so they can fix any problems. Maybe check at your local weekend markets, there are usually well priced plants there...also check your local Gumtree. Re: Advice Please.... Area between driveways 5Nov 01, 2011 11:12 pm I've got the same thing and I'll be putting stones in there - every time someone gets out of the car they will potential whack any plants with the car door or trample them getting out of the car. And unless you have run a pipe under the driveway to connect to your retic you will be hand watering them given the renters next door couldn't give a s**t.......too much hassle with plants IMO. Re: Advice Please.... Area between driveways 6Nov 02, 2011 12:55 pm Easy care plants would be some nice red kangaroo paws or even easier some agapanthus - they thrive on neglect! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Advice Please.... I dont think this will happen that much - most of the time you will drive into your garage and not get out on the driveway, wont you - and anyway hardy plants like agapanthus will cope with the occasion whacking And I think most people manage to get out of cars on driveways without trampling on the plants along the side I agree with Mclaren - agapanthus along that space would look great, green all year round and flower in summer, very hardy and low maitenance.
