Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 30, 2010 5:13 pm Hey all - I am trying to get some ideas for my landscaping... I am already a keen gardener, I am good with natives and vege patches but lack in other idea areas... I have sketched the garden out for you to see. My garden at the moment is pretty much full on sun, and bigger than this one, so I have a lot of larger plants. Anyone have any ideas for the following areas - (NORTH IS TO THE TOP OF THE PIC -I rotated it in photobucket, don't know why it is not rotated here, just tilt your head! ) the fence line along next to the pool and next to the alfresco. I figure a deciduous climber next to the alfresco for the summer sun, but not sure with the pool area. Also a plant which does well with kangaroo paws, along the back. I want to grow a MASS amount of the golden and red variety but when I prune them after flowering I need something there.... I am raising that bed slightly to give the Paws better drainage and I'll be making them a special low phosphate soil. Still don't know if I want to go sir walter or fake.... hate using water, but I have very young kids and I need to feel how soft it is for falling etc... plus I have a border collie 62sq mtrs - eeeek, there goes my holiday! I am hiring a landscaper to do all the hard work, putting in beds Lawn and retic, but want to do the planting myself... Also, I need a good tree, which doesn't drop leaves for the pool but doesn't suck up all the water... hmmmm HELP! Run for longer less water wastage however ( wish we had the pressure for this. the low pressure mp rotors are still to high pressure for us. sigh) Re: Plants ideas for garden design HELP 6Oct 30, 2010 10:04 pm Ok to start with if you want the kids and the dog to have 3rd degree burns on there feet get Fake lawn it gets hot real HOT Otherwise I would go with Fu's suggestion of Empire zyosia or SW turf (if you follow the basic but SUPER soil prep recomendations) it will be a very water wise lawn I would just worry with soil prep once you are in growing tubestock till you are ready to plant just weakens the plant IMO just get heap of Tubes once the soil is right and watch em grow up SO fast faster than the potted ones !! I am still working on the plants I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! I have a rainwater collection going in soooo maybe that will even things out. So should I pot any plants. I did 15 cuttings today of Rosemary, I want to do a hedge... I was confused whether Rosemary is a hard of soft wood though, I bought the soft to medium gel, so hopefully they strike. So should I only consider spray sprinkers? What about drip systems for lawn? Disadvantages Of Synthetic Turf Expensive Requires regular vacuuming to clean Requires regular washing to clean Requires machinery to lift the pile of the leaf blades as they squash down over time A very hard surface, laid on crushed rock Decomposes and leaches chemicals and plastic residue into the environment No environmental benefits Advantages Of Real Lawn Cleans pollution from the air Converts carbon dioxide into oxygen Soft and inviting for play, relaxation. children and families Cools the home - reducing air-conditioning costs Clippings naturally fertilise and compost garden beds Significantly more environmental benefits than any detriment created by using the lawn mower once every few weeks.
