Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 30, 2010 3:57 pm We are finally getting around to building our brick letterbox. We have already purchased the mailbox insert (Milkcan, Palazzohttp://www.milkcan.com.au/palazzo-set.php) but were a bit shocked with the options of having a paper hole. The same company do make a round face plate (although I couldn't see it on their site) that you put PVC pipe inside to act as a newspaper/junkmail holder - but they were $40ea. I asked the guy at Bunnings if there were any 2 packs (one for front, one for back) and he said "most people just leave the back bare". I'm not particularly fussed with this idea because the back will be visible from the house, but I'm also not particularly fussed on paying an extra $80 just for a newspaper holder. I'm sure there is no laws regarding having a newspaper hole, but I haven't seen many places that don't have one. Would it look weird if there were no newspaper hole? Would it detract from the appearance? Any thoughts appreciated. Second Time 'Round Brick Letterbox - need a paper hole? 7Nov 01, 2010 7:16 am Doesn't the paper just get thrown out the car window onto the front yard? Here in SA they throw the paper out the van as close to house as possible... Re: Brick Letterbox - need a paper hole? 10Nov 01, 2010 8:02 am Sorry, yeah I meant the local newspaper, not a daily paper. I'm glad to hear there are others with no "hole". The insert takes A4 mail, so if it won't fit then I suppose they either shove it in as far as it will go or they won't deliver it. I don't think I'll be disappointed with no junk mail, but I think most will fit, meaning it will still get delivered. In reality, we don't read most of the junk mail - including the local paper so from that aspect it doesn't worry me - it was more about appearance (lacking a spot to put a paper). P.S very funny guys Second Time 'Round Re: Brick Letterbox - need a paper hole? 11Nov 01, 2010 11:06 am I used to deliver the local paper when I was a kid and mailboxes without a paper hole were a pain in the rear. Trying to stuff a paper into a slot that is already filled with junk mail is no fun. The paper holders that sell at bunnings are just standard PVC tube. If you want to save a money then go to a plumbing supplier with the face plate and choose the correct size of pvc pipe and cut to suit. Re: Brick Letterbox - need a paper hole? 13Nov 01, 2010 8:27 pm The volumes of junk mail these days means at current trends we will need wheelie bins for letter boxes before long! can’t tell from the photo, a tie down rod will be 12mm, is it a steel beam? he should be able to work it out 1 4423 Thanks for your advice. So far i have not noticed any issues with doors and windows. Builder advised they will organise drainers to inspect 2 weeks ago but no further… 7 17855 7 5726 |
