Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 25, 2010 8:12 pm We are in the process of building a small lot home in Brisbane and I have given myself the task of landscaping the small (11 x 5m) backyard and was looking at a gabion wall. I have read a lot of information about the walls and being only 500mm in height seems to be an easy task (well maybe). The hardest part of the wall is the design? Does anyone know anyone who could assist me with this sort of design? I am very handy and have heard the hardest and most time consuming task is the actual building of it and I am looking forward to this. Its just the design I need help with. i was thinking maybe a seat of something in a corner. Hope someone can help? I suppose with gabions its up to your imagination with design as long as you have the time... but thats my drama. I have not seen anything design wise I like in the smaller backyard style. I have spoken with a place here in Brisbane but the designer is mainly used for large commercial jobs. The smallest appears to be 2m L x 0.5m W x 0.5 H What material are you planning to fill your baskets with? Good luck with your search. Re: Small Gabion Retaining Walls 5Oct 26, 2010 7:09 pm Maccaferri are the guys I am speaking too and seem very helpful. Because it does not require engneering as it is only 500mm heigh, the designers they have say its pretty much up to me. I have seen the video's and articles in relation to construction and they dont seem too hard. I am pretty handy as I am a tradesmen but design advise is required. It is only a small back yard too so I dont want to take up the entire yard with rocks... As for the rocks I am after a darker rock so a blue metal rock may fit the bill.... 100 - 150mm dia What did you end up doing for your retaining wall?
