Hi Guys,
I am going to have to turf my yard which will be about 300m2. Can someone tell me how much top soil I will need? Also, anyone know a good place in brisbane to get it from? What price should I pay per m3?
TA!

Sure it's that big? And I don't think you need it that thick, depending what you're going over. Re: Turfing - Top Soil 5Nov 30, 2007 1:38 pm you need lawn blend topsoil
garden bed topsoil is to acidic but this also depends on your supplier Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Turfing - Top Soil 7Dec 01, 2007 11:11 am We are actually getting turf laid today (just our front yard) and the landscaper has put top soil down. Quite a bit, too, as you need it to come up and meet like the top of the house slab and driveway part. Just put down enough to cover that and you'll be right. Our Adenbrook home was completed in September. Re: Turfing - Top Soil 11Dec 01, 2007 10:03 pm I really don't understand the concept of puttng topsoil down in a thin layer.
It is like weeing in the ocean to make the sea level come up Why I say this is because a good soil ins't just 10cm deep and the roots of your lawn will grow much deeper than 10cm. Therefore haveing spent a little money on a very rich thin layer of soil isn't of all that much benifit other than for the few months you look at your handy work in any detail. It won't take long for roots to grow deeper. (a bit like polking a hole through the skin on custard ) I always recommend a good layer of rich soil and here in WA ones such as Biowise and God's Gift to Gardens is all I ever use. I never use the stuff from bulk soil retail outlets. I always get as much as the budget allows and then dig it through to a decent depth mixing it in with the local soil. That way the soil is a mix and not straight layers and once roots go deeper they will do it more vigorously and therefore be stronger plants and much more waterwise. If needed in some areas a rotary hoe may be required but as with everything spending time and money on soil preperation will pay for itself in no time. I will often work towards preping the soil mix to a depth of 300mm to 1/2 a metre. Then when planting will agian prep the soil twice the depth and width of the root mass being planted. Plants proir to us buying them have really had the cushey life. Great soil (yes even natives) and water 2-3 times a day with just the right fertilizer. Then we buy them and expect them to run a marathon If you think of that and ease the plants into the local conditions a little more softly they will realy return the favour with strong vigorous growth, lawns included Having said all that, putting a thin layer of topsoil is better than nothing at all. I'm going to attempt to lay turf myself once the house is complete due to a certain lack of funds. . Have you guys got any advice for the process in general? Any way to make it easier? I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the boys around to help and put a few cartons on. Re: Turfing - Top Soil 14Dec 07, 2007 10:12 am Laying turf.
1. Get turf off pallet. 2. Put turf on ground. 3. Push turf and roll out. 4. Goto step 1. 5. Water. Lay like brickwork, don't have ends in line (if you know what I mean) Bend your knees. Many hands make light work and they'll drink all your beer. An old kitchen knife is perfect for cutting. Re: Turfing - Top Soil 15Dec 07, 2007 10:26 am _Al_ Laying turf. 1. Get turf off pallet. 2.
