Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 19, 2010 4:39 pm Hi everyone, I am currently doing up my yard at the moment with a turf company but have had issues with the drainage of my block. My backyard (really side yard) is very flat and with the current QLD storms we had, it partially flooded our property at the back just shy of the weepholes right before we laid the turf. They have dug a trench, put in a socked ag pipe and backfilled with sand and soil for the main length of the property but with the torrential rain we experienced a week or so ago it was hard for the water to escape corners around the house where the ag pipe wasn't. (not that it mattered it was that torrential!) Since then they have installed two more (smaller) drainage points in the yard where the flooding occured and linked them via ag pipe to the existing storm water point in the middle of our back yard. The problem I had with this was last Friday night we had average rain and when I checked the drains Saturday afternoon, water was still sitting in the drains! Yesterday I put the hose down both drains and turned it on for a short while, it didn't overflow the drain but still the water didn't rush away like I would have liked it to. Water was coming out of the storm pipe at the front of the house. My question is, should I be concerned that the water in the drains isn't flowing away quickly enough and do I need to do something different before they lay the turf? Should ag pipe have been used to connect these drains to the existing storm water channel? Your help would be appreciated! Thanks! Re: Drainage for backyard help please! 2Oct 19, 2010 5:55 pm First of all, I am no expert in this area, far from it. However, this interests me, so here's my 2 cents. I thought that you should only use a PVC pipe (and I think not less than 10cm diameter) to connect to stormwater pipe. So: Drainage grate/box --> Ag pipe --> PVC pipe --> stormwater pipe Not sure if you can omit the Drainage grate/box and still have surface water entering the ag pipe Do you have any pics of the mini flood and where your drains are located? Can you draw and post some plans for what's been implemented (where the pipes are)? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ...
