If the soil is wet, will it compact too much? We have a sandy loam soil (bayside Melbourne). We have done all our soil prep, and are aiming for a turf delivery this Saturday, but the forecast is for rain (20mm plus). The plan was to hire a compactor and give the soil a going over to level it out, and then again after the turf (Sir Walter) is down. Re: Tilling in the rain 24Oct 27, 2010 9:46 pm You are only making the soil firm. I'm not talking about compacting like a road base, just enough to firm it up a little under foot. Re: Tilling in the rain 25Nov 01, 2010 12:28 pm Hey Tessa how did you go? Melbourne had 65mm over the weekend, would have being near on impossible to get anything done. Saturday morning after a few mm of rain over night we leveled off the front yard. The heavy constant rain didnt start until about 12:30pm, by then all our levels were done and ready for the turf. We stopped for lunch, then spent the rest of the afternoon in the rain laying the turf. At least we didnt have to water it in. Tessa Re: Tilling in the rain 27Nov 01, 2010 3:46 pm good Job , Glad the rain held out for you... really i guess it was perfect conditions for laying the turf (for the Turf.. maybe not so perfect for you ) Cheers Cozmo ______________________________ Building a PD Heywood 29 http://fromevetoeternity.blogspot.com/ Hi, does anyone have any experience with using Trex rain escape or EPDM rubber to waterproof a deck so you have dry space underneath.
