My garage is 1/2 a meter lower than my house, and thus, my landscaping has some intersting characteristics.
This corner of my house was a pain. I didnt know what to do with it so I decided to build a retaining wall to level out the ground and put my veggie garden in there. Plenty of sunlight hits this spot for most of the day (except the morning sun) so hopefully it should work well.
Here is what I've planted so far.
Zucchini, pumpkins, cherry tomatoes, normal tomatoes, leabenese cucumber, snow peas, carrots, parsley, sage, sweet corn, iceberg lettuce, chilli...I think thats it so far...i might have missed a few hehe.
The soil is 70% garden soil and 30% compost mix from my local nursery (Diacos) and was only $39 per cubic metre.
The bed is made from redgum posts and sleepers, concreted into the ground. I have mixed some sand through the soil (as I had alot of sand around the base of the house and wanted to get some soil through it.
There is adequate drainage (socked ag pipe and scorier rock) to keep moisture away from the brickwork on the wall where there is no window. The soil does not go higher than the slab on all other walls.
After putting in the soil, it rained like 10 mins later and that night i platned all my veggies. I mulched yesterday with my Lucrene hay, which I bought like 30 bails of and store round the back. My whole garden use lucerene hay as mulch and it works really well. I've seen some amazing benefits by using this mulch. i'll have to put more pics up of the rest of my garden when i get a chance.
