Mind you we will also be having a retaining wall just infront of this one as that one wasnt done properly. So what ever trees we put in will be in a stone brick retaining wall all the way along the width and then up to about 1m out. I was thining maybe a magnolia of some kind but I am not sure about the roots of those ones but I like the foliage and flowers.. Re: Which trees to hide bad retaining wall? 2Oct 13, 2010 1:21 am Grevilleas Grevillea olivacea, any of the showy tropical ones, Grevillea superb. There is more than there is numbers. the only man to have counted Grevillea varieties is Chuck Norris Vibernum tinus, Emerald Lustre and odouratissima. Hibiscus tilleaceous rubra or The Cottonwood Hibiscus Feijoa sellowiana or a Pineapple Guava Murrayas. Espalier a whole orchard around the boundary! Have an entire food supply at your beck and call. Citrus, stone fruit what ever Just drop in poles and run wire along and tie off the plants as they grow. Snip off anything growing outward and you have your own food If you spend money on water, make it be used for growing things Look at using Michellia instead of true Magnolias Go to your local native nursery and see what local species are available. You'll have lots of birds visit you and provide some light snacks... I mean entertainment They can all be clipped and hedged just fine Hakeas, they make wonderful hedges Re: Which trees to hide bad retaining wall? 3Oct 13, 2010 11:33 am Thanks Fu, I love your suggestions. Do you think the root system of the Emerald Lustre would be ok in a retaining wall? I love the look of that tree aswell as the camelia.. I have shown DH the other plants/tree and he likes them all but too hard to choose which ones so might alternate between two of them along the back. Re: Which trees to hide bad retaining wall? 4Oct 13, 2010 11:54 am Yeah they will be fine The plants mentioned are not monsters of destruction. They just don't have it in them.
