For goodness' sake, pull it OUT!! That thing is a weed and before you know it, you'll have millions of them. Second-worst thing I ever planted... Re: Is that Wattle? 6Oct 10, 2010 8:35 pm They do grow rather quickly! Planted some at our very first house-funnily enough they have never had a repeat performance! Chuck it in deep in a hole and it will never see the light of day again Re: Is that Wattle? 9Oct 11, 2010 12:30 am When we built our first house the landscapers who did our front garden put that in. First thing my Mum said when she visited was "Pull that out!" Re: Is that Wattle? 11Oct 11, 2010 6:42 pm Jasmine. It's rampant - got under the house, into the roof and everywhere. And you can't kill the stuff with Roundup. It just plays possum and pretends it's dead for a while. Evening Primrose might be equal second. Re: Is that Wattle? 12Oct 11, 2010 6:54 pm kek Jasmine. However lets look at what a climber is and why it does it. They must be strong. They have to be to move against gravity and be able to ramble through trees and competing shrubs for light in dimly lit areas. That is what climbers do, climb for the light. Of course there are many variations on this generalisation but essentially, that is what we are dealing with. They have an enormous amount of foliage. You wouldn't run a marathon and take just a small bottle of water now would you? Well a climber can't supply a huge amount of foliage with a tiny harmless root system. It must be vigorous and able to supply all that foliage with a heap of water. It is no wonder the climbers you have grown did that. They are a great thing in the right place but often the better choice is too hedge a shrub than use a climber. There is soooo much more I wish I could show you guys about this stuff but I am busier than a one legged river dancer in a bum kicking competition! imagine 100's of Fu's and what we could do |
