It is wet and miserable weather here, our backyard is waterlogged and I'm stuck at home with an injured shoulder...so, what's to be happy about I hear you ask? I harvested rhubarb and green tomatoes-I've just finished filling 3 jars with Rhubarb Chutney and have 2kg of green tomatoes salted to be transformed into Green Tomato Pickles tomorrow! Your going great guns I'm finding that our blueberry plants are coming along nicely at the moment-I didn't allow them to fruit last year whilst they got established-but we still managed to get a few berries that the plants were determined to supply! There hasn't been a lot of action due to the incredibly wet conditions ( double our normal year to date rainfall.. ), but I have broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, rocket, coriander, garlic, perpetual spinach and potato onions growing nicely! I'm moving the raised strawberry beds closer to the fence which divides the back yard from the orchard-will make it easier to access the strawberries when we are inundated! I have some potatoes to plant soon and will also be spreading some more sheep poo and sugar cane fines to create another large raised garden bed. Blueberries, raspberries and all the fruit trees seem quite happy-and the chooks are laying! Re: Sufficiently sufficient..... 159Aug 27, 2011 1:26 pm DH and I have spent the morning in the garden. He's done most of the labour of digging over some of the garden beds (with a lot of help from our chooks-the girls really appreciated his efforts, gobbling up any bugs turned up by the digging! ), whiclst I mowed and then helped with the digging. Seamungus spread and our beautiful rich soil is ready to plant out over the next few weeks. We have around 80 sq m of vegie garden beds at the moment, which will be enough to supply most of our needs! Spuds will go in shortly, and I've got tomato & eggplant seeds ready to sprout on our kitchen window sill. DH & I may not be able to move tomorrow-but it will be worth it in a few weeks!
