Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 04, 2010 1:22 pm Hello all, after site cut and our slab laid we are going to need a retaining wall down the back corner of our block, something we thought we would not need, but anyway it would be approx. 8 metres in total. I have searched on here for retaining wall photo's to see what's around these days, in my current home we had to have retaining walls and we went with sleepers, but thought there must be some new materials to use these days,if anyone can share some photo's of your retaining wall it would be much appreciated. Many thanks Site Start: 10th September, 2010 PCI : Friday 27th January, 2011. Cheapest option by a long way for what we need. Different wall types have maximum heights too. How tall does your wall need to be? If you Google retaining wall blocks you'll get a bunch of results. Brick or block type walls tend to be the most expensive as well. A friend of mine has the pine sleeper + steel type wall, but then they put cement sheeting over it and rendered the whole thing (25mt long 3mt high) looks good and fits with their house style. Re: Show me your Retaining Walls please 3Oct 05, 2010 9:23 am Thanks for pic chrisandkate, that's what we have at the moment and after 20 years they are looking really shabby and need replacing. So we wanted to go something with blocks etc to be long lasting, our wall height would probably be around the 400mm high. Thanks for the google tip will look into it. Rough costs for a Gal steel post and treated pine sleeper wall are $55per mt 100mm Galvanized steel posts "H" beams $50per mt 100mm Galvanized steel posts "C" beams (you use these for the ends as its a little cheaper) $18-22 per 2.4mt long 200hx75d treated pine sleeper. At 400mm high you may even be able to use 3mt long sleepers which could work out cheaper. Also you'll need .05-.06m3 of concrete per post hole for a 400mm diameter hole (go as deep in the ground as you are above it) and 100mm of crushed rock/blue metal for drainage in the bottom of each post hole. Also you may want to renew any AG pipe behind the current wall whilst you're at it. A rough guess at materials cost is $275 steel $290 sleepers $100 crushed rock & scoria $?? concrete $50 AG pipe $20 sand (for under the AG to level off the ground) from most of my quotes its 50/50 materials to labor so probably around $1500 for a trades person to do it. Edit: I couldn't see location in thread review. I'll see if my guy is willing to go to South Morang before posting details Re: Show me your Retaining Walls please 5Oct 05, 2010 11:10 am thanks chrisandkate, much appreciated. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11795 |
