Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 27, 2010 6:27 pm I've copied my post from my building thread to here... to hopefully find some more suggestions and ideas... Here's some pics... aside from a handful of ground covers... we're done! Well I say 'done', but we're still deciding what to do with the patch we've left bare. Grass? Ground cover? More mulch and plants? I'm open for suggestions? My initial plan was to plant out the whole yard... then I wanted some lawn area... now I just dont know. We've not touched that patch at all... it's still tough as rocks, all clay which is rock hard... and weeds, as you can see Any suggestions what would look good??? I wouldn't do more mulch and plants though - you have already covered a fairly large area like that and I think anymore would be a bit too much. Maybe some lawn and a feature tree? Or a large rock feature area with a few natives thrown amongst it all? A large feature pot on decking to tie in with your other timber features? That's all I got sorry My karma ran over your dogma Re: Our front yard - ideas for our bald patch??? 3Sep 27, 2010 7:12 pm Thanks for the ideas We have 3 feature trees planted already... but the feature pot sounds good... perhaps surrounded with grass or ground cover... That's what I originally wanted... just need to put it in the right position so it doesn't look cheap. I've priced a few pots... you know the oversized-enormous-need-crane-to-lift-pots... they're not cheap! eeek! Anyone else got any ideas? Re: Our front yard - ideas for our bald patch??? 4Sep 27, 2010 7:17 pm Re: Our front yard - ideas for our bald patch??? 5Sep 27, 2010 7:41 pm I would say lawn however depending on water restrictions that could end up being a waste of money. Otherwise you could fill the area with river rocks and have 3 feature pots and some ground covers flowing out on the ground. Re: Our front yard - ideas for our bald patch??? 7Sep 27, 2010 7:52 pm Are your keeping the driveway crushed rock?? Im lazy, so want a low maintenance front garden. i know hubby wont mow unless I beg him for 6 months, and I dont want to do it so no grass in our front yard! Hoping our neighbour will mow our verge or whatever it is in exchange for food every now and again So I like the idea of a low ground cover. But dont ask me what. I know nothing about plants! Too much rock can look a bit harsh. You can always get a mowing guy out after 2 weeks of nagging does not get him mowing. Just say to your hubby.... Gee the mowing man is hot... Hes coming over to do the lawns on Tuesday when I have the day off! Hubby will have your lawn will be mowed in a flash... haha. The one half way up on the left as you head to the city. Can't remember the name but it has a good range of outdoor feature pots etc. I remember thinking how nice the designs were (stones sticking out). Re: Our front yard - ideas for our bald patch??? 19Sep 27, 2010 10:39 pm Looks like you have a bit of slope to work with, how about low dry rock retaininhg wall, quarter to half circle in shape, daylighting (dissapearing) into the ground at each end, sitting up into that corner near the fence. Then a pond and water garden against it, then curving edging and a level bit of lawn to the footpath. Could also find a place for a garden bench, or build in a small ledge into the wall for a seat. Could also do it without pond, small garden bed instead and then lawn. Get a nice ground cover cascading over the rock - E. 'kalbarri carpet', G. 'gin gin gem', C. 'rocky rambler', or even Ficinia nodosa. Wall could be vertical or laid back. Would give it a bit of 'height' which would be nice.
