Hi,
We are looking at uses of available space in our back yard, and were wondering about planting a vege bed right in between a couple of mature trees (gum tree and orange tree).
The gum and orange can be seen in the top left hand corner of the following picture. My guess is that there is somewhere between 3 - 4 meters between them.

My question is, will the trees usage of water and nutrients mean that it is a useless place to put a vege bed. We were originally going to use the area for a cubby for the kids. If it isn't going to be a successful place for veges, then we might revert back to the cubby idea. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
