Re: my new front yard 2Sep 12, 2010 12:30 am That is the goods I see you even went to the effort to nick a few roadworks signs and get some oc health and safety happening while you are working close to the road edge Also take the labels off and file them. Plants with labels tend to get nicked after planting They can also be left on and forgotten and the wire can cut into the plant in time to come If the plants are wobbly when you take out the stake, snip them back a little over all the branches. You won't regret it Take about 1/3rd off Pluck the stake out of that plant on the right of the first pic Re: my new front yard 3Sep 12, 2010 1:04 am Looks Great Is that sand it is layed on?? Re: my new front yard 4Sep 12, 2010 8:21 pm Mecha-wombat it is on a sand base here in WA. The stuff you can see is a "lawn mix", not what I would use but will do sort of something, but ultimately is some expensive sand to add to your already abundant sand. It contains some loam. A few cubes of Spearwood loam and certified organic soil is a good budget alternative that will out perform "lawn mix" by a mile. Zeolite and bentonite clay need to be added as well. Mix through existing soil structure to around 300-400mm deep ensures deep healthy root growth and minimal water needs for the turf. When soils are layered we get poor shallow root growth that will mean in the long term the lawn is thirsty and will stress easy in heat and cold Re: my new front yard 6Oct 16, 2010 1:23 pm well just short of 5 weeks and its still growing strong really happy with the way its come out, doing our first mow tomorrow yay! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v348/miss_petepie/16102010005.jpg Harrisdale backyard finally done! Re: my new front yard 7Oct 16, 2010 4:44 pm Oh I meant to post that an alternative to constantly using molasses is to use Shades Of Green which at present is only available in WA and is "Fertiliser Wise" Re: my new front yard 9Oct 16, 2010 7:53 pm 4 bales of peastraw will do a nice job of it Hose down and it won't blow around, not one bit I do note you laid the turf so you get the MCG manicured turf look Just a little thing that adds a touch of class to a new turf there should be ss cable so you can pull up bore pump for service 1 3349 Hi all, Need some ideas for my front yard.
